New release out > African Electronic Diaspora: Black Lives Matter fundraiser compilation, 28 tracks!
V/A – African Electronic Diaspora: Black Lives Matter
release date: Friday 04.09 Bandcamp Friday
on Bandcamp only > www.rebeluprecords.bandcamp.com
[bandcamp width=100% height=120 album=1731422262 size=large bgcol=ffffff linkcol=0687f5 tracklist=false artwork=small]
In the aftermath of the Black Lives Matter protests in June allover the globe, followed by a summer with or without holidays, itโs important to keep the flame burning and the discussion going. The road is still long, but united we stand, moving forward together.
The aim of this compilation is to raise funds for various (inter)national NGOโs, anti-rasicm advocacy groups and organisations of black initiative, with all proceedings to be donated to these causes. (Look in press info for full list of carefully selected organiations)
The artists donated their music as a collaboration between Rebel Up Records, the artists and the international labels Nyege Tapes, Syrphe, Bongo Joe Records, Sdban Records, Galletas Calientes, Blanc Manioc, Indigenous Underground, Strut, Earconditioning and 1000Hz Records. On this compilation we brought together mostly electronic African or Afro descendant artists from the worldwide diaspora and artists based in their homelands, from motherland Africa to Latin America to the Caribbean and back to Europe. Itโs a vibrant combination of contemporary sounds that showcases the current talent of the artists and producers, combined with awareness for black lives & art and serving as a fundraiser. You can find a list of the supported organisations on the last page. Also info on each of the artists and their Bandcamp pages are included in the notes.
As this compilation is an ongoing process, itโs possible that the tracklist can still grow with a few extra songs in the next weeks. Please support & buy this compilation, let the internal fire burn on.
Also check the amazing support by the blogs Pan African Music and Rhythm Passport with nice articles and words about the compilation!

Next day on sunday afternoon there is a swapping market and musical matinee afternoon at our homestead venue OCCII. The Fly Agaric collective organises this afternoon of various swapping and with a special concert by Moroccan musician Lahcen Akil and the Chaabi Brothers. Wow!
Lahcen Akil was born in 1969 in the village of Tamlalte on the route of the thousand Kasbahs in the Moroccan High Atlas. Influenced by acoustic music and traditional Amazigh songs, he started music very young. As songwriter and poet, he writes songs about the beauty of the region which he plays on a self-made 5-stringed lothar lute, composed of a wooden handle, a palm soundboard and goatskin. Lahcen is joined by fellow villager and percussionist El Houssain Safir who plays the bendir, a traditional drum with vibrating snare. For the occasion, two more musicians come along: the bassist David and accordionist Matthieu. Be ready for a compelling evening of raw Amazigh roots out of one of the most beautiful regions in the world!

Fri 17 april, LAST Rebel Up! Soundclash @ De Vinger, Den Haag
Hi Up! Everyone,
Sadly, this is our LAST EVER party night at De Vinger, as it soon will be closed and demolished, what a shame ๐
We will be joined by our new Rebel Up! member DJ DUCKFOOD who will Heat Up the dancefloor for you to freely run, jive, and just dance for the hell of it. As usual, expect a fine Rebel Up! mix of old and gritty tunes with newer weirder than ever music from all around the globe: Calypso, Soukouss, Cumbia, Desert tunes and other genres in the making.
The entrance fee should be 3โฌ but it can also be more if you feel like helping out this bar De Vinger which as always intended to be just an open stage for young and less young local and international artists. Just providing what has become a rarity in Den Haag : a venue for alternative music.
Hope then to see you there one last time!
