Time for another Rebel Up! late thursday night in Bonnefooi bar, and with 2 special guests!
DJ PANKO (Barcelona, ES)
The beatmaking DJ of the famous Spanish nu-flamenco hiphop mestizo band Ojos de Brujo, has produced many of their albums and remixes, toured the world allover. Nowadays he also works on musical projects like Lenacay and Electrorumbaiao and is quite busy spinning ethnic tunes from all over the world with loops and electronics. Expect a fine selection of flamenco, rumba, psychedelia, northern african sounds, indian spheres, colombian tropicalism and much more. Remezcla mundial! Check out all his special remixes here >
DJ KUMBIA BEATS (BO / Antwerp)
is the dj alter ego of Marco Bustamante born in Beni, Bolivia, descendant from the Quechua culture and plays all the native Bolivian folk music instruments like quena, charango, pinkillos, tarkas, zampoñas, etc. In 2010 he started his own concept about Colombian cumbia combined with electro, drums and bass, funk, Bolivian folk, global bass and rock. He’s also the leader of cumbia band ‘Los Demonios de la Cumbia’ a live group playing traditional cumbia combined with beats and synth samples by Dj Kumbia Beats. Cumbia for life!

DJ SEBCAT (Rebel Up! Bxl)
On his own tonight as LeBlanc is away on business… Bonnefooi says > This guy is one of Brussels’ most underestimated Global Groove Dj’s, with a musical network from Rajasthan to New Yorkistan and a musical selection that goes even farther and deeper into tropicalism and obscure global dance music. Sebcat is also a fulltime musical nexus, the way he blends his global grooves together in a party he also re-arranges, feeds and stimulates musical culture. Whatever you will get from him, in sound or food, it will be filled with specials spices and hotness. Caliente!

22 Feb > You India Like? Rajasthan Street Music LP release party @ Studio Marcel, Brussels
A special night in Studio Marcel (Recyclart) this saturday 22 Feb >>>>>> >>>> > > >>>>> > >
Our very own Rebel Up! SebCat will let us see contemporary street level India (Rajasthan) through his eyes but also through other eyes, through photographs, live movie clips and video clips. Rajasthan culture without the safe typecasted tourist view but roughly enhanced by encounters with locals, having stayed in their homes and villages and getting a close feel of their daily lives.
The Indian streets are the main theme tonight, as this is also the release party of the double vinyl ‘Rajasthan Street Sounds’, recorded by Seb and just out now on the amazing outernational SUBLIME FREQUENCIES label. The sounds on this LP are sincere and filled with context by who sings & plays them > no big artists, but the Rajasthani street folk musicians who have a tough life and never get the right respect for their musical skills within their own society. These recordings were made in 2007 with folk musicians on the street or in their homes, on regional folk instruments such as ravannattah violin, kamaycha cello, ektara lute of morchang jewish harp.
a sufi & hindu spiritual concert by the Ali Kawa Brothers (Rajasthan) who hail from a musical family of Rajasthani master musicians from the pink city of Jaipur. On vocals, tabla and harmonium for a true feeling of the trancendental islamic & hindu reverence sound that can be heard allover Rajasthan
The whole night will be coloured with projections of photo’s by Seb Bassleer, David Tesinsky, Maarten Van Der Glas, Vanessa Verbeiren, Jet van Zwieten and Neire Le Neiro, as well as movie projections of road & music clips by Maarten Van Der Glas in a different room. There should be fresh chai and spicy fried snacks available for a real taste of the Indian streets,
+ Hellvete (BE)
Glen Steenkiste alias Hellvete is a member of psych outfit Sylvester Anfang II and also of the Kraak and Funeral Folk label. He draws influences from old folk music and drones to make hypnotic tapestries. Tonight he will play a special warmup drone-out set of multi-layered harmonium & sruti box airwaves beyond the realm of raga into eternal bliss.
+ Dj’s of the night > SebCat’s Maj Tahal (cassette folk, digital folkpop, Filmy discopop & cassettes from India) et DJ soFa (Bollywood, Kollywood & Lollwood reissues)

Sat. 30 June > Rebel Up! Soundclash & A/V Club present global lo-fi night; Alvarius B (US) + Sublime Frequencies dj set & Riquetik’s goodbye party
Hello all!
Time for a fresh Rebel Up! Soundclash night again > a special globla lo-fi night together with the fine folks of A/V Club. We have Alan Bishop as a special guest, who will play his Alvarius B solo project and do a Sublime Frequencies dj set afterwards. Sadly, it is also Riquetik’s goodbye party as he is leaving Rebel Up! & A’dam to go pursue his academic career in Budapest.
Here’s the roll > >
ALVARIUS B
Rare Acoustic Solo Performance (starts 23:30)
Alvarius B. is the acoustic guitar/singer-songwriter alias of Alan Bishop, a major player/seminal figure of the American underground – a founding member of Sun City Girls and the Sublime Frequencies record label (Omar Souleyman/Group Doueh/Group Inerane etc.). This project sees Alan unbalance and entertain using a twisted song cycle blend of humour, politics and heartbreak with melodies old, broken and new – a lethal cocktail for the senses.
SUBLIME FREQUENCIES DJ set
Sublime Frequencies is a record label and collective with explorers dedicated to focus on acquiring and exposing obscure sights and sounds from modern and traditional urban and rural frontiers.
REBEL UP! SOUNDCLASH CREW
Especially for this night, the Rebel Up! crew will play eclectic vintage & lo-fi sounds from all corners and ages of the globe, from folk to pop, psychedelica, rock and backwards. Accompanied by grainy, vintage visuals to make sure there’s never a dull moment on the dancefloor
Profits on the night will go to NGO Bhakti Luhur in Malang, Eastern Java, which takes care of handicapped children. One of the aid workers is a dutchman who runs the excellent Madrotter Treasure Hunt blog, all about Indonesian pop, rock and folk music from the past with quality uploads.
