Sat. 14.10 Rebel Up x Nuits Sonores Brussels festival @ Brasserie Illegaal

Hey all,

This saturday another big Rebel Up party at Brasserie Illegaal!
Part of the Nuits Sonores Brussels festival programme, we have made an amazing exciting lineup, with Brussels debuts for 3 artists!

On the lineup >>>

SYQLONE (Maroc/Paris) makes cyber chaabi bass music, a mutation between traditional and popular North African music and bass music (DNB, jungle, footwork, dubstep, etc.). Her musical live project is part of the Amazigh-futurist scene.

DJ K is originally from the favela of Diadema in Sao Paulo, Brazil. At 22 years old, this young producer is a crucial figure in the scene of new styles of baile funk called “Mandelão” and “Funk Bruxaria”. This aggressive sound, with a sharp and high-pitched “tuim” and high volume, energizes the favela block parties in São Paulo.

Griot Tech is the new collaboration between Burkinabé percussionist & vocalist Kaito Winse (Avalanche Kaito) and Brussels DJ Rebel Up SebCat. They explore griot music from the Sahel/Western Africa in a punchy electronic sound via SebCat on decks & effects and Kaito’s live spiritual vocals and modified calabash percussion. Griot dancefloor beats for heavy night clubbing in ancestral vibes. This show is their debut!

For the intimate and the anonymous, Drache MuMu has been widely splashing planetary grooves since 2012. With in the sprinkler extinguisher: beats africo tropico coco, glorified chââbi, crewole groove, séga, gnawa, digitalized cumbia, serious tropicool, kamba, tumbelé, zouk bass, tsétéra tsétéra. DJ set at night, radio show during the day on Radio Panik – Brussels, no time to dry out.https://www.mixcloud.com/DracheMusicale/

RaqL is one of Brussels local up & coming dj’s. She specializes in tropical and electronic bass music from Portuguese-speaking and African communities around the world. Her roots are from Cape Verde, Portugal and Angola and her sets are eclectic and energizing. An active part of the Rebel Up family since the start of her musical journey, she is a member of the Bxl female collective Tropical Djipsies.

Wedn 9 March > Rebel Up Alive Sessions @ Bonnefooi w/ NGHE, Chien Fer, Mott Flyf & more

We have a new concert residency at Bonnefooi > Rebel Up Alive sessions.
On every second Wednesday of the month, Rebel Up will gather with alternative artists from Brussels and beyond and will make us dive into global sounds from the underground scene.

Wednesday 9 march is our first evening, where we invite the NGHE Mediatheque from Molenbeek, with live concerts by Chien Fer and Mott Flyf.

CHIEN FER
solo country/punk/noise on banjo, sung in french and via a rhythm box.

MOTT FLYF
Mott Flyf thinks singing is everywhere. In puddles, landfills, forests and stomachs. He believes that to capture it, one must be endowed with a powerful mediumistic love. So he falls in love and plays tunes and songs as the melody comes walking. His ritornellos walk, sad and full of hope, next to time and beg the sun to beat him up. Friend of the rain, he falls asleep in the mud, dark, rainbow. He sings to the sounds of zouk, bossa nova, baile funk, new wave and urban pop love songs. https://soundcloud.com/mott-flyf

DJ support by Rebel Up, Tropical DJipsies and NGHE soundsystem.

Fri 13 Sept: Rebel Up Records evening, 10inch vinyl release Satanic Samba Trio (BR) @ Recyclart, Bxl

Satanique Samba Trio: it’s not really a trio and they don’t play samba but they are quite satanic…. this mythical Brazilian band from the capital Brasilia performs funny, pertinent and surprising sound collages, an ongoing investigation into the aesthetic deconstruction of Brazil’s most popular musical traditions.

Friday September 13th, 2019 will be remembered in Music History for the release of their new 10inch vinyl “Mais Bad”, a conceptual sequel of the 2015 release “Mó Bad”. “Mais Bad” is a new collection of low fidelity bagatelles, forged into existence by Satanique Samba Trio’s thirst for aesthetical deconstruction. All instruments in this 10-track vinyl have been recorded with the same cheap cell phone from the early 2000’s. It is meant to sound desperate, harsh and absolutely surreal. A little over the top, maybe? Yeah, but hey: that’s just how a country in crisis should look and sound like. Right?

Listen here to “Mais Bad” on our Bandcamp, and see new videoclip below, warning: graphic medical images 🙂
