A โ€˜picoโ€™ is a typical Colombian soundsystem as can be found on the Caribbean coast, with itโ€™s huge width and fluorescent colors. El Magico Baobab hails from Netherlands, where they build a pico soundsystem according to the Colombian measurements and with a hand-painted screen design by the famous Colombian pico painter William Guitterez Peรฑaloza.

DJโ€™s and live groups will be playing on this pico soundsystem for a true Colombian tropical vibe โ€“ cumbia, baila cantaos, currulao, tambora, gaita, champeta, salsa and moreโ€ฆ.

The original TROPICAL parties are back ! and for the first time in Atelier 210.

Funky Bompa & The Roots Corner Soundsystem are teaming up for this special edition. DJ Tom B. (Paris, compiler of the Leve Leve Sao Tomรฉ e Principรฉ 2LP on Bongo Joe Records) is headlining an all-local tropical line-up starring DJ XOGN, Radio Martiko, Rebel Up SebCat, Holy Mutants and the Tropical ambassador Funky Bompa himself.

Expect a mighty selection of hurricanes and pearls from tropical and exotic regions. Cumbia, island funk, ethiojazz, samba, highlife, soukous, semba, rebita, benga, puxa, funana, coladeira, afro boogie, guaguanco, guaracha, mambo, merengue, cadence, kompa, disco calypso, maloya, sega & mucho mas.

on sunday evening, Rebel Up will play @ Fiesta Latino festival in Bois de la Cambre (Ixelles).

The festival starts on friday 25th and runs until 27th, where we will play at the closing night alongside the band Forro Mior, DJ Odilonn & Vincent Thekal and our buddy Rafael Aragon. on friday & saturday, our friends of Memo Pimiento, Kumbia Boruka, Arumbo and DJ Funky Bompa will play too!

SYSTEMA SOLAR is a crazy Colombian collective ‘from near the Caribbean’ and you might already know them from other nights & festivals? Apparently they will be bringing ‘berbenautika’ and that is then a cross between the champeta ‘pikos’ soundsystems and the ‘verbena’ parties!? Or, as they say: ‘Whatever. Party!’

LA CHIVA GANTIVA is also of Colombian origin but is known to dancing music-lovers as international, diverse, from Brussels, and even as ‘neighbour to AB’. In 2017, they finally release a 3rd album. Weโ€™re happy to repeat it too: with their extra tambore, alegre, llamador and maracones they are sure to get you back on the champeta, chirimia and mapalรฉ!

ORKESTA MENDOZA gathers in Tucson, Arizona, and is linked to Calexico via their frontman Sergio Mendoza. Here is a phenomenally infectious mix of texmex, cumbia, mambo, merengue, ranchero, rockโ€˜nโ€™roll, country-twang, psychedelica & Perez Prado… The whole hot hog, wittily played with class, passion, and pleasure (and released on the brilliant Glitterbeat label!)

LA NEGRA ALBINA, our friend Paula Leon lead this group: as homebase Brussels โ€“ on the street or in parks if need be โ€“ but most definitely with Latin or Hispanic or South America roots, and what they present is quite simply extra-territorially enjoyable.
