this friday our friends of El Pulpo are organising a special concert & afterparty @ La Tentation

with special guest Baro Drom Orkestar from Firenze, Italy
An explosive and exciting group that combines klezmer, Armenian, Balkan music and pizzica & tarantella from the Salento in the so-called “Power Gypsy Dance”. An unconventional ensemble: electric violin, accordion, electric double-bass and modified drums. Italian temperament, passion and hot rhythm…World music with a rock attitude. see their video here >

also warm up liveset & afterparty set by Alizarina. This nomadic clarinet player fuses eastern European folklore into a modern electronic sound with a good beat. Video here >

and dj of the night will be Italian DJ Grissino (Antitapas), beat juggler of all styles global and swinging sounds.

It´s that fun time again, Recyclart Holidays festival starts this week, the best local festival of Brussels with alternative culture, art and community activities every thursday & friday that will run until 1st of August.  The workshops will start again this thursday on the outdoor square, Pain Publik; the public oven, grilled bites at the BBQ and much more. So why even leave on holidays if you can stay your own city?

On this first Holidays In Vitro evening of the summer our Rebel Up! SebCat will be teaming up with eclectic global dj Duckfood from Rotterdam for some global sound trips from 19:00 – 22:00 while the BBQ will be sizzling with tasty bites.

and also from 22:00 the South Korea – Belgium world cup match will be shown on big screen outdoor on the square, for a good alternative viewing in the setting sun.

Directly followed by a live concert of La Fanfare De Belgistan in the big room of Recyclart, who will bring a mix of ethio jazz, funk, gnawa and balkan styles all mashed together in the unique Belgistan sound >

and ofcourse, it’s all free in like every thursday during the Holidays festival!

From St. Petersburg and Odessa comes the male sextet La Minor, a band that plays a combination of sax, guitar, guitar bass, mandolin en bayan (Russian button accordion). They bring pure and warm acoustic music filled with Russian chanson, polka, klezmer, tango & gangsterjazz. One after the other, vocalist Slava Shalygin tells tough guy stories that deeply smell like alcohol and tragic love . In a huge country where one fifth of the male population has already been in prison once, these typical Blatnyak songs of life are daily bread and part of the national psyche. La Minor takes up the Blatnyak role theatrically with a wink in the eye and lighthearted irony which sure will make people smile and dance. Their record has just been released on the fine Berlin Eastblok label.

Before & after the band, We’ll spin a bizarre mix of Ex-Sovjiet & Russian spheres, Eastern European folk and Balkan Beats. Expect a deeply in vodka drenched sound filled with pleasure and melancholy, future and past times gone.
