Here some new radio sounds of the past month of January

Starting with a new episode of Rebel Up Nightshop for Radio Campus Bruxelles. A lot of global selections an new albums in 3 hours!

Also a new Rebel Up session for Kiosk Radio, with eclectic sounds between folklorical, classical and rootsical, all in an Arabic vibe. Ceasefire now!

We had our recent Rebel Up show at Bruzz Ice radio, in the theme of the Week van de Belgische Muziek (Belgian Music Week), where we had an interview with one of the members of Belgian band Alpacas Collective about their new album ‘Big Words’.

And for Radio Campus France, SebCat did a special mixtape for their Campus Club sessions. 1 hour of mostly contemporary Greek and Turkish sounds.
This mix takes you to the folkoric, psychedelic and contemporary sounds from Greece to Turkey, via Crete and Cyprus. A wide array of styles are played in this mix; from rebetiko to roma laiko, greek mambo, tsifteteli, nisiotika, taxims, karsilama, anadolu folk, nursery songs, psychedelic pop and rock, roman havasi and more…..

In ealy July, we did our Rebel Up @ Friends session at Kiosk Radio with our Cuban friend Raul aka Chaonda of Cubalanz festival / Camarote Culture asbl. A session with latin sounds between cumbia & salsa.


and during summer break for Bruzz radio on our Rebel Up show, we hosted a string of global mixtapes by DJ Doraemon (Lisbon, PT), Skandal (Bxl), SebCat and Kokonuts (Kortrijk). Check them all below 🙂

We Are Various radio organises monthly evenings with live concerts & dj set in the Bos bar of Het Bos in Antwerpen.

This wednesday 26.04 with Rebel Up SebCat on dj duties and live concert + Q&A with Kaito Winse (Burkina Faso), who will play his solo deep spiritual griot vibes. It will be livestreamed as well.

new Rebel Up Nightshop online #102, january 2023


New Nightshop show online for January via Radio Campus Bruxelles. With songs of the day from Brazil, Peru, Argentina and London via South Africa. Our albums of the month are by experimental jazz trio Bog Bodies, Egyptian singer Maha and her 1979 arabic funk album, Israeli band Sababa 5 and their psychedelic exotica, Turkish singer Gaye Su Akyol and her psychedelic folkrock and Nigerian band Oriental Brothers International Band and their Igbo highlife music. Continuing with Electric Vocuhila and their Malagasy tsapiky sound, Mexican electro cumbia meets classical keys by Memo Pimiento, Algerian disco raï singles from the Maghreb K7 Club, Sarera & Blanc Manioc and their Mayotte island bass, Insula and their La Reunion maloya deep bass and finishing with RS Produçoes from Lisboa and their batida bass.

Songs of the day by Alicia Edelweiss and Ezra Collective on folky and afro funk vibes. 11 Albums of the month by Senegalese-Swedish group Wau Wau Collectif, desert psyche folk by Ak’Chamel, Kutiman with chill exotica soul & grooves, Guts with a powerful lineup of african & latin musicians, latin psychedelica vibes by Lola’s Dice, an anthology 2LP from Sao Tomé & Principe on Pedro Lima’s life and music and the religious electropop by Ghanaian singer Linda Ayupuka. Followed by female empowerment by Persian-Israeli singer Liraz, Al-Qasar and their urban arabic desert rock, French-Moroccan duo Alix Pilot & Ghizlane Melih and their arabic electrodub vibes and finishing with Iranian female producer Maral and her dark cut up electronics.
