Friday 19 July: Rebel Up @ Recyclart Holidays with concerts Echoes Of Zoo + Cyril Cyril, Recyclart, Bxl
yes yes, Recyclart Holidays festival is back again!
in the new venue with the renovated rooms and big pavé courtyard. food, music, drinks and more.
This friday a real special night with 2 live concerts between punk jazz, psyche folk and many other outernational sounds. and a Rebel Up dj set before, between & afterparty.
Echoes Of Zoo (BE)
Belgian jazz cat quartet with a animalistic punk jazz sound. Spearheaded by Nathan Daems (Black Flower), Falk Schrauwen, Bart Vervaeck and Lieven van Pée. Sometimes beastly violent, then again erudite & delicate. The generosity of the band works radically contagious on audiences. With echoes from the Balkans, the middle east but just as much from the nervous urban context. In other words, our village fanfare, which is an ode to the hybridity of Molenbeek. Listen here.
Cyril Cyril (CH)
Ancestral sounds from the underbelly of psychedelic folk. The duo Cyril Cyril (of La Tene / Bongo Joe Records) produces sounds that make you long for a nomadic existence in unknown mountains. Armed with a banjo, guitar, drum kit and prophetic words, they take us like a phoenix to the dance floor. Listen to their album here.
Rebel Up will mix up raw punk with spiritual jazz to outernational psychedelic beauties and ethnic folklore.

Fri 21 Nov > Rebel Up! @ Le Guess Who Festival in RASA, Utrecht w/ Ogoya Nengo & Dodo Women’s Group (KY) + uKanDanZ (FR/ET)
This friday playing at Le Guess Who? festival in RASA world music venue, check their fingerlicking good lineup, just awesome and many of our friends playing too!
Ogoya Nengo will do one of her first performances outside of Kenya. Born in the 1930s in a small village at the shores of Lake Victoria, she soon joined the socially critical Dodo singers, a genre and community which is in danger of vanishing. Ogoya became the rave of her time, singing to great chiefs, warriors and even colonial officers and missionaries. Despite Ogoya being a legendary Kenyan folk artist with a career spanning over three decades little people outside Kenya have had the chance of ever hearing her and her ensemble.
Inspired by traditional Ethiopian songs, uKanDanZ is an explosive musical hybrid of styles which, as the name suggests, are made to dance to. With guitar, bass, drums and tenor sax they occupy a vibrant place somewhere between rock, improvised jazz, noise and Ethiogroove. Front and centre is charismatic vocalist Asnake Guebreyes from Addis Abeba, chanting Ethiopian soul melodies that transcends the highly energetic music to unheard places. They deliberately cross all traditional musical borders, creating something new and unique while at the same time staying true to the origins of the genres they magically melt into one.
as always our Rebel Up! sounds will be in African, Latino, Caribbean, Arabic and Asian global spheres, tripping around the world in unknown sounds to make you bounce.

Sat 8 Feb > Rebel Up! Soundclash @ OCCII, A’dam w/ A.J. Holmes (of Hackney Empire, London) & Alex Figueira (Vintage Voudou)
Another Rebel Up! Soundclash night coming up with a sweet line up of afrolicious guests.
East London musician A.J.Holmes is the founding member & singer of The Hackney Empire band, who play a marriage of afro-pop and soukous paired with traditional pop sensibilities as a serious warm vibe. A.J. learned to play African *palm wine* guitar music from Folo Graff who played with Sierra Leonese legend S.E. Rogie (the king of palm wine guitar music) and from that moment on he got totally sucked into African music which also resulted into co-organising the succesfull Secousse club nights of tropical madness in London together with global electronic duo Radioclit (M.I.A., The Very Best, Amadou & Mariam). On this night he will play a solo palm wine guitar set as warmup, followed by a super special set with guitar & dj decks at the same time for a unique approach of his mixed African sound. We can only say; not to be missed! Listen to his mixtape & songs of what to expect.
dj Alex Figueira, born in Venezuala with Brazilian roots, has a BIG passion for vinyl; he is the co owner of the Vintage Voudou vinyl shop in A’dam, a grand collector of vintage African and Latin vinyls, runs the Music With Soul label and plays in the bands Fumaça Preta & Conjunto Papa Upa. This passionate spinning man will sure make you bounce & swing with his special delicious selections from the tropics. and oh, it’s his birthday party!!!
