Rebel Up is proud to present their 7th release > the album release party of Brussels/Moroccan gnawa jazz band Marockin’ Brass, who will present their new album ‘Beats & Pieces’ for the first time during an in-house concert at MetX in les Marolles! and what better > FREE IN!
Marockin’ Brass is the brainchild band of jazz composer/music maker Luc Mishalle, together with Brussels Moroccan musicians such as Maalem Driss Filali (guimbri, vocals), Abdessamad Semlali and Badr Derras, aided by percussionist Roel Poriau(Think of One / Antwerp Gyspy Ska Orchestra) and Tunisian electronic beatmaker Sofyann Ben Youssef (Kel Assouf, Ammar808). Also this big band is aided by Brussels multicultural musicians Esinam Dogbatse, Jean-Paul Estievenart, Veronique Delmelle, Pascal Rousseau, Jean Gnonlonfoun and a string of guest musicians.
Expect some steaming gnaoua or sweaty shaabi-funk accompanied by some redhot brass and free flowing jazz that will blow the sand out of your ears!

Global Street Sounds is a DIVERSE and FREE party on sunday 16 sept during the car free sunday. After the summer vacation, time to kick of the new season and stir up all the senses again with a unique mix of music, culinary excursions, animation and attractions..
Rebel Up helped curating the street programme, with DJ’s and live acts. From the afternoon onwards, in and around the entire Steenstraat, in and aside the AB, this time with the Main Hall occupied by Ifriqiyya Electrique, and Jupiter & Okwess.
In the street, the block party will be fired up with global beats from all corners by DJ’s of Drache Musicale, Ill Syll and Lowup.
in the street, outernational bands like Wahati Soul (in Mr Ego), Da Pemba (at Electrocution) and Stalin Black (Music Village) will play, and also Flemish-Moroccan culture venue Darna will have live Brussels gnawa band Black Koyo and Radio Martiko DJ’s playing during the day.

Far from the current Ayatollah Oriental fashion, which flood us with Orientalist and post-colonial clichés, Arabstazy is the action that created its own movement. The collective was founded in 2013 by a handful of artists spread across Tunis, Paris and Berlin, they organize their independence by starting to organise their own parties and edit their tracks on their home label Shouka (*thorn* in Arabic). They establish unthinkable links between different pieces of the puzzle of the North African identity, moving smoothly to esoteric Sufi Stambeli possessions … Thus, in the hands of this young Franco-Tunisian collective the united spirit of North African trance is fully expressed. At their parties, eclectic artists such as SKNDR, Tropikal Camel, Wetrobots N3rdistan were all part of the amazing Project Chaos made in Tunis. True to their taste for dark superstitions, Friday the 13th they will tread the soil of BXL for the first time. Molenbeek! A cultural and artistic melting pot, a young and dynamic neighborhood filled with action and movement. Café Quartier is a meeting place where a stage is presented to (young) talent, ideas and initiatives.
Café Quartier XXL is a new concept: an expansion of the profile of the VK. Its main idea is to offer a true cross-over, in music, on stage and in the crowd. The bands on the stage will provide a mix between underground and Maghrebi music and will offer an experience which represents the spirit of Molenbeek!

Hailing from Mali the Tuareg band Terakaft (meaning “The Caravan”) are regarded as the pioneers of desert rock. No other band from the desert is closer to Tinariwen than Terakaft.
‘Alone’ is the fifth album of Terakaft. Recorded partly at the famous Real World Studios, the album was produced by Justin Adams, the British musician/ producer who has delved deep into Tuareg music, and is known through his work with Robert Plant, Tinariwen and Juldeh Camara. In these troubled times, they have made an album together, that presents the deep Saharan rhythms as a vital contemporary heartbeat. MDOU MOCTAR (NG)
In the somewhat crowded scene of Tuareg guitarists, Mdou stands apart from his peers. One of the few original singer/songwriters willing to experiment and push the boundaries of the genre, his unconventional styles have won him accolades both in Niger and abroad. Mdou Moctar hails from Abalak, in the Azawagh desert of Niger.

Next day on sunday afternoon there is a swapping market and musical matinee afternoon at our homestead venue OCCII. The Fly Agaric collective organises this afternoon of various swapping and with a special concert by Moroccan musician Lahcen Akil and the Chaabi Brothers. Wow!
Lahcen Akil was born in 1969 in the village of Tamlalte on the route of the thousand Kasbahs in the Moroccan High Atlas. Influenced by acoustic music and traditional Amazigh songs, he started music very young. As songwriter and poet, he writes songs about the beauty of the region which he plays on a self-made 5-stringed lothar lute, composed of a wooden handle, a palm soundboard and goatskin. Lahcen is joined by fellow villager and percussionist El Houssain Safir who plays the bendir, a traditional drum with vibrating snare. For the occasion, two more musicians come along: the bassist David and accordionist Matthieu. Be ready for a compelling evening of raw Amazigh roots out of one of the most beautiful regions in the world!
