One of the foremost exponents of Argentina’s digital cumbia scene, Pedro Canale aka Chancha Via Circuito has released 2 albums on Buenos Aires’ famed ZZK label and just released his 3rd album Amanasara on Brussels label Crammed Discs. Their blend of Argentinian folklore, Paraguayan harp and Andean mysticism, all processed through Pedro Canale’s own futuristic strain of electronic music, has garnered great reactions: the albums were hailed by Pitchfork and the New York Times, among others, and Chancha was enlisted for remix work by Gilles Peterson and Gotan Project. This Chilean/ Argentinian duo runs the famous Parisian Muevelo parties and are the top of the cream of new latino bass sounds from the americas. Some years ago Grandpamini already made Brussels sweat at a Nightshop party in the Recyclart and we’re happy to invite him again to play his own fun edits of reggaeton beats and tropical bass. mas perreo, mas perreo! Pedrolito is his sidekick at Muevelo and runs a saboroso radio show for Groovalizacion radio. Ogoya Nengo will do one of her first performances outside of Kenya. Born in the 1930s in a small village at the shores of Lake Victoria, she soon joined the socially critical Dodo singers, a genre and community which is in danger of vanishing. Ogoya became the rave of her time, singing to great chiefs, warriors and even colonial officers and missionaries. Despite Ogoya being a legendary Kenyan folk artist with a career spanning over three decades little people outside Kenya have had the chance of ever hearing her and her ensemble.
Inspired by traditional Ethiopian songs, uKanDanZ is an explosive musical hybrid of styles which, as the name suggests, are made to dance to. With guitar, bass, drums and tenor sax they occupy a vibrant place somewhere between rock, improvised jazz, noise and Ethiogroove. Front and centre is charismatic vocalist Asnake Guebreyes from Addis Abeba, chanting Ethiopian soul melodies that transcends the highly energetic music to unheard places. They deliberately cross all traditional musical borders, creating something new and unique while at the same time staying true to the origins of the genres they magically melt into one.
as always our Rebel Up! sounds will be in African, Latino, Caribbean, Arabic and Asian global spheres, tripping around the world in unknown sounds to make you bounce.

The beatmaking DJ of the famous Spanish nu-flamenco hiphop mestizo band Ojos de Brujo, has produced many of their albums and remixes, toured the world allover. Nowadays he also works on musical projects like Lenacay and Electrorumbaiao and is quite busy spinning ethnic tunes from all over the world with loops and electronics. is the dj alter ego of Marco Bustamante born in Beni, Bolivia, descendant from the Quechua culture and plays all the native Bolivian folk music instruments like quena, charango, pinkillos, tarkas, zampoñas, etc. In 2010 he started his own concept about Colombian cumbia combined with electro, drums and bass, funk, Bolivian folk, global bass and rock. He’s also the leader of cumbia band ‘Los Demonios de la Cumbia’ a live group playing traditional cumbia combined with beats and synth samples by Dj Kumbia Beats. Then on Friday 25 july, Sebcat will be playing at the big La Mar de Musicas festival in Cartagena city centre as part of Cassette Connection, which is the international cassette playing project between Awesome Tapes From Africa,DJ K-Sets& SebCat (aka Maj Tahal). After Belgium/Holland this is only our 2nd tour, so lucky Spain!
We’ll be playing at the old Moorish castle overlooking the city & harbour of Cartagena, after the shows of global bands Les Ambassadeurs, the reunited Malian 70’s band of Salif Keita, Amadou Bogayoko & Cheik Tidiane! And also La Yegros (Argentina), a great honour. In the deep of night between 2:30 – 4:00 we will be playing a fine selection of cassettes from Africa, Middle East and Indian subcontinent. It sounds something like this!
Rebel Up! has teamed up with the Lowup crew to organize a Brussels show for the Frikstailers 2014 European tour at Salle Rogier.
We kick off early at 18:00 with BBQ (veg + meat) and cold drinks on the terrace out front and showing the world cup quarter final between Belgium – Argentina, just the perfect game for our Belgian-Argentinian party!!!
At 23:00 we move inside for a concert by the “indisputable galactic emperors of tropical futurism” followed by a steaming global bass party with all the local heroes. Have a peek at our FACEBOOK event for details and more music.
The rhythms and textures of traditional Latin American music infused with hip hop and dancehall beats, dramatic synth leads and krauty electro noodlings: Argentinian duo the Frikstailers boldly go where no band has gone before and they do it with verve and gusto.
With one album, two ep’s and some sizzling hot remixes to their name this Mexico City based duo have established themselves as a first class electronic live act at festivals on both sides of the Atlantic and are now bathing in the favourable attention of reputable institutions such as XLR8R, The Fader, Boiler Room and Modeselektor.
The dj’s of the Rebel Up! & Lowup crew will surround their live set with cumbia bass, dancehall, urban electronic and many other spicy tropical dance styles.
