This wednesday Rebel Up Invite Hun Hun (live) @ Bonnefooi

Hye all,
this wednesday evening at Bonnefooi bar, Rebel Up organises an evening with live concert by Hun Hun.

Brussels duo Hun Hun. Following a trip to Istanbul, the two brothers set about creating mini sound odysseys with new age, ambient and tribal overtones. Hun Hun’s compositions are experimental and timeless, playing on the repetition of ancient melodies and rhythms. Ready to get lost in the maze of the big bazaar ?

Wedn 9 March > Rebel Up Alive Sessions @ Bonnefooi w/ NGHE, Chien Fer, Mott Flyf & more

We have a new concert residency at Bonnefooi > Rebel Up Alive sessions.
On every second Wednesday of the month, Rebel Up will gather with alternative artists from Brussels and beyond and will make us dive into global sounds from the underground scene.

Wednesday 9 march is our first evening, where we invite the NGHE Mediatheque from Molenbeek, with live concerts by Chien Fer and Mott Flyf.

CHIEN FER
solo country/punk/noise on banjo, sung in french and via a rhythm box.

MOTT FLYF
Mott Flyf thinks singing is everywhere. In puddles, landfills, forests and stomachs. He believes that to capture it, one must be endowed with a powerful mediumistic love. So he falls in love and plays tunes and songs as the melody comes walking. His ritornellos walk, sad and full of hope, next to time and beg the sun to beat him up. Friend of the rain, he falls asleep in the mud, dark, rainbow. He sings to the sounds of zouk, bossa nova, baile funk, new wave and urban pop love songs. https://soundcloud.com/mott-flyf

DJ support by Rebel Up, Tropical DJipsies and NGHE soundsystem.

New release: Chicha Popular: Love & Social Political Songs From Discos Horoscopo 1977-1987

Chicha Popular: Love & Social Political Songs From Discos Horoscopo 1977-1987

New release on Rebel Up Records, +5 years in the making, retrospective of worker class & migrant chicha cumbia from Discos Horoscopo label from Lima, Peru in the 1980’s.

Between 1977 and 1987, the Discos Horóscopo label produced the largest wave of Andean tropical cumbia in the world; ‘chicha’, a reference to the indigenous Andean alcoholic drink. The label was filled with contemporary iconic figures such as Chacalón y La Nueva Crema, Los Shapis, Pintura Roja, Los Ovnis, Grupo Alegría and other groups which today have a cult status in Peru and beyond. Together they created a unique style with the capacity to talk about both love and uprooting, unemployment, struggle of classes, internal violence and impossible loves.

Selection made by DJ Pinchado, Rebel Up SebCat & Jalo del Prado Nunez. Out now digitally, streaming and as 2LP deluxe gatefold edition with 12 page booklet with Liner notes by Alfredo Villar and translated song texts (in spanish & english) and graphic gatefold design by Ruta Mare.

Available as 2LP or with limited edition 7inch bonus single (Los Shapis & blind singer Nohemi)
Also very limited edition run of 60 Chicha Popular Tshirts available, designed in neon paint by Ruta Mare.

new digital release on Rebel Up Records: Satanique Samba Trio – Forrível, Halloween / Dia das Bruxas special mini album

Satanique Samba Trio is back with another mini-album, made during this everlasting confinement.

F O R R Í V E L – Halloweeen / Dia das Bruxas special, get it on our Bandcamp.

[bandcamp width=100% height=120 album=3607458661 size=large bgcol=ffffff linkcol=0687f5 tracklist=false artwork=small]

After 10 albums dedicated to the aesthetical disassembling of Brazilian music’s most recurrent clichés, Satanique Samba Trio aims its ongoing research at a new formula for musical fuckery: the artificial combination between forró, the popular Brazilian groovy rhythm and horror synth, the not-so-popular music genre extracted from old keyboard-ridden horror film scores.

Think of what would happen if the most syncopated of all Brazilian folk rhythms incorporated a bunch of obsolete-but-nowadays-trendy giallo soundtrack tropes.
Mathematically speaking, forró + horror synth = forrór synth. And that is where Forrível is coming from.

Well, enough of homework. It’s Halloween once again (or Dia das Bruxas – Witches Day, as it’s called in Brazil) – and it’s raining in Brazil. As we are slowly descending into a renewed global lockdown, here some soundtrack sounds for these dark times.

Mon 6 May > Rebel Up Soundclash w/ Ahmedou Ahmed Lowla duo (Sahel Sounds) @ OCCII, Amsterdam + live session at Red Light Radio + Tue 7 May @ Pantropical, WORM, Rotterdam

This monday evening at OCCII Amsterdam, special concert by Mauritanian duo Ahmedou Ahmed Lowla from Sahel Sounds!

First up, from 16 to 17h we will do a Rebel Up x Sahel Sounds livestream session at Red Light Radio, tune in online and see/hear it all.

In the evening at the OCCII, synth freakout from the Sahara. Mauritanian WZN (literally “instrumental music”) has emerged as pop music, blaring out of taxi cabs and cassette shops throughout the country. Ahmed Lowla is one of the country’s biggest stars. Performing in lavish weddings of Nouakchott with a troupe of percussionists, Ahmed’s signature style is dynamic and ambitious, shredding over the keys with flourishes (like playing with his elbows and head!). Hypnotic and tranced out, Ahmed Lowla transports Mauritanian classical music into technological futures, like a drug-free baroque rave under the open air of the Sahara.
