Unfortunately we received the sad news that Islam Chipsy & EEK will not make it to Brussels tonight. Statement by their agency:  “On Monday 2 members of Islam Chipsy & EEK were involved in a car accident in Cairo which although not serious has left them with injuries that mean they will sadly be unable to perform at Bang Festival. They send their best wishes to all their fans in Brussels and hope to reschedule this performance for a later date’”

STILL featuring DEVON + FREWEINI will replace their spot in the line-up

We are super happy to welcome the amazing duo of DJs / producers UMOJA from the Netherlands. For several years, UMOJA has been relentlessly switching between DJ performances on major stages and recent studio & recordings sessions with local artists in Uganda and Kenya. Combining a deep knowledge of roots music from Africa, Latin America, Antilles & beyond with a great sense of creativity, they have released a large amount of edits & own productions that leaves no global underground party animal indifferent 🐧🐧🐧

Our local team of global underground DJ’s > DJ Chokkou, Rebel Up SebCat and Le Grand Méchant Loop, will also be behind the decks with the clear intention to set the room on fire 🔥🔥🔥

And that’s not all folks – we’ll take care of your eyes also 🙂 Our beloved “visual wizard” Maria Ilia will bring this musical trip to the next level with a special video mapping performance.

◊ FANNA-FI-ALLAH
This seven-man company from Pakistan & Canada is celebrating the Pakistani qawwali tradition – an ancient form of Sufi religious music from Asia – such as Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan did in the 80s-90s. And although they have been active for 20 years, the band seems to break through this year with a wider audience.

◊ RUDRESH MAHANTHAPPA & the Indo-Pak Coalition
Pitchfork recently described his style as ‘jaw-dropping’ and called him ‘one of the finest saxophonists going’. AllMusic also lauded and titled: “One of the strongest voices of the jazz scene.” His latest album ‘Agrima’ reflects ‘the vibrant presence of Indian rhythmic and melodic elements in a charged, modern improvisational framework born of the New York jazz scene’.

Rebel Up is proud to present their 7th release > the album release party of Brussels/Moroccan gnawa jazz band Marockin’ Brass, who will present their new album ‘Beats & Pieces’ for the first time during an in-house concert at MetX in les Marolles!  and what better > FREE IN!

Marockin’ Brass is the brainchild band of jazz composer/music maker Luc Mishalle, together with Brussels Moroccan musicians such as Maalem Driss Filali (guimbri, vocals), Abdessamad Semlali and Badr Derras, aided by percussionist Roel Poriau (Think of One / Antwerp Gyspy Ska Orchestra) and Tunisian electronic beatmaker Sofyann Ben Youssef (Kel Assouf, Ammar808). Also this big band is aided by Brussels multicultural musicians Esinam Dogbatse, Jean-Paul Estievenart, Veronique Delmelle, Pascal Rousseau, Jean Gnonlonfoun and a string of guest musicians.

Expect some steaming gnaoua or sweaty shaabi-funk accompanied by some redhot brass and free flowing jazz that will blow the sand out of your ears!
You can already listen to and pre-order the album via Bandcamp.

This friday night, Memo Pimiento and his electric orchestra will play at the Bokal Royal. It will be his last Bxl concert of 2018 before leaving Brussels for Mexico to flee the winter and coming back a few months later.

It’s an eclectic night with a diverse lineup of live artists & dj’s.

Rebel Up curates an electro latino night for Nuits Sonores @ BRASS venue in Forest.

with an international lineup of live acts and deejays from the latin underground:
Nova Materia (CL/FR/ live), Usted (ES/ live), Meneo (GT/ live) and Rebel Up DJ’s, Muevelo DJ’s (AR/CL/FR) and Andr’s R (VZ).

Expect everything from experimental electro latino pop to 8 bit reggaeton, electropical, dembow, cumbia beats, moombahton and beyond!

It’s the goodbye concert of Belgium’s punk post rock band Madensuyu, after 25 years.
Babylon Trio will open the evening with a live set at 19h, and we might even have some vinyls of their debut album ‘Habibi’ for sale! 🙂
