Saturday 19 april: Globaal Illegaal party: Maloya to Afrotech @ Brasserie Illegaal, Bxl

hey all, spring is here and we organise another Globaal Illegaal night @ Brasserie Illegaal.

On this special 𝑮𝒍𝒐𝒃𝒂𝒂𝒍 𝑰𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒈𝒂𝒂𝒍 spring night at Illegaal, we travel from african beats to lush caribbean vibes, from electro Maloya and strong percussion, to batida afrotech bass from Lisboa & Angola and beyond.

𝑳𝒂𝒓𝒚𝒔𝒔𝒂 𝑲𝒊𝒎
Italo-Congolese artist & DJ Laryssa Kim serves up a fiery blend of Afro-diasporic and Caribbean sounds in her high-energy, booty-moving DJ sets. Blending classic Congolese Rumba and Soukous with contemporary Afro Pop, Shatta, Gqom, Singeli, Afro-Portuguese fusion, and Caribbean gems like Bouyon, Reggaeton, Soca and Kompa—her selections are a fast-paced celebration of rhythm, movement, and joy. Expect twerking vibes, sweaty grooves, and an irresistible flow from start to finish. While she’s known for her immersive live-electronic performances and experimental compositions, her DJ sets reveal another facet of her expansive sonic world. Curious ears from the ambient side are warmly invited to explore her solo project on streaming platforms or vinyl, with her latest album ‘Contessa’.

DJ K is originally from the favela of Diadema in Sao Paulo, Brazil. At 22 years old, this young producer is a crucial figure in the scene of new styles of baile funk called “Mandelão” and “Funk Bruxaria”. This aggressive sound, with a sharp and high-pitched “tuim” and high volume, energizes the favela block parties in São Paulo.

Griot Tech is the new collaboration between Burkinabé percussionist & vocalist Kaito Winse (Avalanche Kaito) and Brussels DJ Rebel Up SebCat. They explore griot music from the Sahel/Western Africa in a punchy electronic sound via SebCat on decks & effects and Kaito’s live spiritual vocals and modified calabash percussion. Griot dancefloor beats for heavy night clubbing in ancestral vibes. This show is their debut!

23h30 Alizarina Quartet live (Breizh / FR)

Alizarina is a red pigment extracted from a vegetable root: The madder of the dyers. Alizarina is lively, it moves, it’s organic, floral and poetic. Alizarina Quartet offers compositions inspired by traditional elements, a sonic epic from Brittany to Romania, sometimes infused with oriental warmth. or South American. Everything is always guided by the clarinet with klezmer and classical accents. An electronic carpet supports and energizes the acoustic timbres of the strings and wraps itself in a frank and lively rhythm. An energetic electronic sound that sublimates the acoustic, classical and traditional influences of the world, aided by poetic texts anchored in the current era.
