Fed by traditional « Gnawa » and Berber rythms ever since he was born in the suburbs of Agadir, Morocco, young DJ and producer Gan Gah is now based in Brussels.This accomplished musician, who has been performing for many years as a beatmaker under various pseudonyms, knows how to shake a dancefloor with bewitching beats. Offering a cunning combination of club music and traditional North-African music/rythms/melodies, his first EP “Souktronics” is a declaration of love to his Moroccan roots and to modern electronic music which is about to make a lot of noise on worldwide dancefloors. Intergalactic Body Trance Provider who washed up in Brussels a few years ago, but nomadic nonetheless and spends most of his time in different continents. This friday a special Tropicalia night at the largely unknown loft space Belgica.

The night is organised by a collective of creative Brazilians from Sao Paulo who welcome everyone to party all night long in their new place. A 600 square meters industrial loft. Friends of friends are also welcome.
Concert by Les Fanfoireux + a variety of DJ sets. Rebel Up! in tropicalia & psychedelic & beats style + many others.

Hello Brussels!

This saturday a sweet night at Beursschouwburg together with kunstencenter De Vooruit from Ghent as part of the yearly Out Loud festival.
British afropunk-poppers Zun Zun Egui sadly had to cancel their show, but Rebel Up! helped arranging some fine replacements for them, 2 bands even, yay!

We´re proud to present French-British outfit Orchestre Du Mont-Plaisant and local Brussels & Ghent afro-heroes Mocambo to fill this night with their special global sounds.

Orchestre Du Mont-Plaisant specialises in all global styles with a heavy psychedelic sauce. They bring together world rhythms and moody cinematic moments playing blues and dance pieces, with notable influences from Congolese Soukous, African highlife, Ethiopian jazz, cumbia, séga and a whiff of Middle-East and Turkish Psychedelia to make your head & body spin.

Mocambo will shake you up with their heavy Afro-Brazilian & urban Afrobeat rhythms. It´s the project by rapper Le Tagarel and composer Tartaruga and joined by our own Brussels artist Témé Tan and several other master musicians. Their strong sound takes you from Angola to Brasil in many colours and spheres. Get ready to rumble with this wild band!

The next few days, Rebel Up! SebCat will be touring the eastern coast of Spain, yay!
Shoudl you be around there the next days, do come!

Tomorrow night, Thu 24 July, SebCat will be playing global/tropical beats in Valencia together with Biano (member of Orxata Sound System) @ Desfas Tropical party in Juanita Club. Doors open at 23:00, Facebook event here.

Then on Friday 25 july, Sebcat will be playing at the big La Mar de Musicas festival in Cartagena city centre as part of Cassette Connection, which is the international cassette playing project between Awesome Tapes From Africa, DJ K-Sets & SebCat (aka Maj Tahal). After Belgium/Holland this is only our 2nd tour, so lucky Spain!

We’ll be playing at the old Moorish castle overlooking the city & harbour of Cartagena, after the shows of global bands Les Ambassadeurs, the reunited Malian 70’s band of Salif Keita, Amadou Bogayoko & Cheik Tidiane! And also La Yegros (Argentina), a great honour. In the deep of night between 2:30 – 4:00 we will be playing a fine selection of cassettes from Africa, Middle East and Indian subcontinent. It sounds something like this!

Thu 3 July > Rebel Up! @ Recyclart Holidays festival, Part 2; Music Video Mix

Thursday 3 July we´ll again do something special at Recyclart Holidays festival.
Especially for this evening we made a Rebel Up! video mix with music video´s from allover the world in various styles, from ethnographic to urban sounds in a true global underground vibe. Expect video´s from Peru, Mexico, Haiti, Jamaica, Brazil, Angola, Namibia, Uganda, Morocco, Egypt, Kurdistan, India, Laos, Solomon Islands and more…
From 22:00 – 23:00h it will be projected outside on the big screen, come and check it out!!

Also afterwards inside the Recyclart venue; the Tunisian project band Bargou 08 will perform their Stambeli trance folk sounds. Started by vocalist Nidhal Yahyaoui and composer Sofyann Ben Youssef, they venture deep into the repetoire of north & southern Tunisian folklore aided by young musicians for a modern sound trip. Get yourself lost in the bodily trance!
