30.01 – 10.02: Rebel Up on Euro tour w/ Nahawa Doumbia in BE/NL/DE/FR/CH

for the next 2 weeks from 30.01 until 11.02, Rebel Up SebCat will be touring with Malian singer Nahawa Doumbia and her acoustic band. Not as DJ, but managing the band on the road, taking them from venue to venue through Belgium (Antwerp, Gent, Leffinge), Netherlands (Leiden), Germany (Dusseldorf), France (Paris) and Switzerland (Baden, Geneve & Dudingen).

Since the 1970’s, she is one of the main female voices of the Malian Wassoulou style. Check our her recent reissue on the Awesome Tapes from Africa label, it’s pure bliss.
On the tour they will have merch for sale (CD’s and vinyls) at very fair prices.

On saturday 8 Feb, SebCat will spin global tunes in Geneva together with the Bongo Joe team at Chez Jean-Luc cabaret bar into the night. Drop by & swing 🙂

The RS Produçoes (‘Rinchoa Stress’) collective from the Rinchoa northern Lisboa suburb was launched in 2016 by a then 17-year-old Narciso, and is made up of DJ/producer Nuno Beats, DJs Nulo and Lima, producer Farucox and MC Pimenta. Their album ‘Bagdad Style’ on Lisboa label Principe Discos last year features 8 original compositions by DJ Narciso and Nuno Beats and moves from “muscular batida” to “metallic cargaa” via “semi-tarraxos” and ravey house and kuduro jams. The crew plays regular shows at Príncipe’s monthly Noite Príncipe parties in Lisbon and will be playing in Brussels for the 1st time. Quente, puxa!

PLLOW (Bloom Hill / Kiosk Radio)
PLLOW is a female Cameroonian/Belgian DJ & co-founder of the Brussels music agency Bloom Hill. With this eclectic DJ, you can expect a set between afro rhythms and bassy sounds. Hussein Rassim is a young Iraqi musician and player of the oud (Eastern lute), who studied at Iraq’s best music schools. Hussein is also a member of the bands Solo Baghdad, Arumbo and Nawaris. He has recorded an album titled Amerli with Refugees for Refugees, and Migration with Nawaris.

Sunn Trio hail from Phoenix, Arizona. Surrounded by deserts like the Middle Eastern guitar music that is one of the notable influences on their sound, along with free jazz and harsh exotica and touchstones as disparate as Sonny Sharrock ,John McLaughlin, Sir Richard Bishop and Thinking Fellers Union Local 282. Sunn Trio’s Fayrus album on the Unrock label last year is a kaleidoscope for the ears featuring sax, saron, gong, boning, lap steel, tambura, oud lute and even a Gameboy, echoing from behind a curtain of bitter haze and sun-beaten punk. In the words of Alan Bishop (Sun City Girls), “Wielding Indo-Arabian Saz & white lightning six-string shrapnel amidst an alligator snapping turtle’s rhythm section, this trio-quartet-sextet may also sprout horns, flutes, animal skins, or shadow gamelan to faithfully demolish that whiny and predictable listening experience of today’s tepidly lazy, underachieving experimental music scene. Great news, this weekend Rebel Up is hosting the new KiosQ dj stage at Esperanzah Festival on friday & saturday. We invited Brussels crews Global Hybrid Records and Giraffes & Penguins to join us, for a real special sounds from the global underground vibe.

Also lots of great artists playing at the festival > Ibeyi, Delgres, Babylon Trio, Fanna-Fi-Allah, Saodaj, Pongo, Les Ogres de Barback, Le Motel and so much more. On sunday our friends of Radio Bistrot will take over the KiosQ stage from us.

yes, this weekend, festival season fever has kicked off.

On friday, a triple city programme of Rebel Up & Babylon Trio spread over Brussels, Genk and Gent.

starting at Couleur Cafe, where Rebel Up, Drache Musicale and Le Grand Mechant Loop will play together 3 evenings in a row from 18h until 1am at the secret Drasch bar. Think you can find us? 😉 On friday and saturday night Rebel Up LeBlanc spins and Rebel Up SebCat on sunday.

Meanwhile in Genk (Limburg), Babylon Trio will play a live show before BaBa Zula and Omar Souleyman.

and that same friday evening, Rebel Up SebCat will spin from midnight til 2am at Copacobana festival in Gent (St Amandsberg) at Het Kasteel stage. Also a free festival and a great lineup.
