Since the release of the highly acclaimed album Mamari (2021), the Muito Kaballa project has continued to develop.
The new album Little Child is filled with jazz, grooves, funk, afrobeat, soul and electronic remixes.
The compostions on the album tackle complex social problems of today; starting with the hypocrisy of the European refugee policy on ‘Inside Outside’ with the proclaiming voice by German-Nigerian afrobeat activist singer Ade Bantu. ‘Dansez! Dansez!’ is an upbeat song with influence from Congo, Angola and Malian guitar music, with the sweet licks of Belgian guitarist Juresse Amie Tieti Ndombasi.
‘No=No’ has a clear message: “Don’t protect your daughter, educate your son” on the hot topic of sexual consent and shameful male behavior. The next song, ‘Memories’, reveals a completely different side of the band in lush jazz. “Keep in mind, it makes you blind, starring in the sun”
The 8 minute soft soul composition ‘Little Child’ is for comforting one’s own inner child, with beautiful solos played by Benjamin Schneider on guitar and Saskia-Marleen Dahms on trombone.
The album concludes with 4 remixes for the dancefloor, delivered by Belgian producer Kuna Maze, Polish/Angolan duo Lua Preta, French producer La Dame and Brazilian bass producer Badsista, tipping the remix balance into female positivity.
