Saturday 19 sept > music evening @ Refugee Camp, Parc Maxilien Bxl + Sunday 20 Sept > Car-Free Day @ Schaarbeek Village + 2nd DJ party @ Refugee Camp
Hello Brussels rebels,
If you have not yet been to the refugee camp at Parc Maximilien (Gare du Nord), do visit and feel welcome to help out if you have some free time. Volunteers are always needed for many different things, from kitchen to cleaning to construction to animation. Check the Platforme Citoyenne De Soutien Aux Refugies Bruxelles on Facebook.
This saturday evening Rebel Up! is helping with organising a musical evening for & by the musicians of the refugee camp (from Syria, Iraq, Kurdistan, Afghanistan, Eritrea etc), followed by a afterparty with music from the camp inhabitants. See FB event here.
We are still looking for instruments to borrow; especially percussion, keyboards, djarbouka´s or Arab instruments such as Oud lutes etc. Also microphones, stands and cables are in high demand. And on friday or saturday we need some help constructing a small stage as well, so join up if you like. contact us at rebeluppa -at- gmail.

On Sunday there is the Car-Free Sunday in all of Brussels and let’s celebrate that with music and bike action.
In Schaarbeek at Avenue Louis Bertrand (next to Parc Josaphat), there will be the *Schaarbeek Village* street party with concerts, theatre, food, repair café, Pro velo, workshops and green infostands. Between all this, dj sets by Rebel Up! SebCat, Jean Mikili & Matamore.

and straight after at 17:00, another DJ party at the Refugee Camp at Parc Maximilien, again with folk dance selections played by the refugees. Last night was just amazing, such a wild party atmosphere and after this session we just need to do a 2nd session.

This saturday & sunday > Alternatiba movement arrives in Brussels around Place St Catherine & La Tentation, 2 days of alternative ways to change the world for a better climate!
On saturday there´s a special FREE music night at La Tentation, also curated by the El Pulpo collective that Rebel Up! is part of.

Sat 12 Sept > PANTROPICAL > LA BANDA FANTASTICA (nl) + DJ BONI (ao/nl) + DUCKFOOD (nl)
Special open air showcase as part of the ‘Kunst in het Witte de Withkwartier’ festival. Zigzagging from the dense ‘Kunst in het Witte de Withkwartier’ program, you can hop straight into our corner stage area for a good Pantropical fix.
• LA BANDA FANTASTICA • have top musicians from Mexico, Chile, Argentina, and Rotterdam in their ranks. With Amsterdam as their main operations base, they quickly became the prime movers behind the great ‘Fantástica’ cumbia parties (currently ‘on hold’). Musically they know exactly how to throw a great party, mixing Latin-American classics with their own blend of various cumbia styles, such as the psychedelic guitar based Peruvian Chicha (or Cumbia Amazónica), Cumbia Villera, etc. The band performed at festivals like Fusion, Berlin.
• DJ BONI • has been making a name for himself at quite some venues in and around the Angolan / Afro clubscene in Rotterdam. At a previous Pantropical last year November he held is own playing with the great Nigga Fox.
• DUCKFOOD • Pantropical / Rebel Up! resident DJ. One of Rotterdam’s most knowledgeable music omnivores. Will tie all sounds together in a way only he can.

oh sweet yeah, Rebel Up! DJ’s to play closing set at Zomerparkfeest festival on saturday night (22 aug) after Portuguese/Angolan kuduro band Throes + The Shine. Gonna be heavy and expect a booming afro bass set from us too 🙂

Our good Brussels dj buddy SoFa is throwing a wild b-day bash at Café Central with lots of dj friends playing. Our Rebel Up! SebCat will play a global ping-pong set from 23:00 til a bit after midnight. See FB event here!
Then afterwards at Recyclart, it´s already the last Holidays festival night awww, but with a seriously good line-up > Bxl improv jazz outfit Going, a set by German duo Sven Kacirek & Schneider, the Kenyan ethnic folk of the 80 year old Ogoya Nengo & Dodo Women group, our friends Umeme Afrorave from Amsterdam with their afro electro sound and London DJ Poté for some heavier african bass til the end. Not to miss!
