Sat 15 july > Festa Afro Tuga #3 @ Barlok, Bxl, with Celeste Mariposa & LiloCox

Afro Tuga #3, Afro Portugese style, muito quente /+
after the very succesfull 1st & 2nd Festa Afro Tuga organised by Rebel Up & the NGHE Mediatheque, it’s time for #3, in the Barlok venue this time.

Celeste Mariposa (PT)
Wilson Vilares started out in the techno scene but the powerful music of the African ex-Portuguese colonies lured him in and he became a true connoisseur of the Luso-African music diaspora from Angola & Cabo Verde, Guinee Bissau, Sao Tomé and further. Last year a label under the same name, releasing talented Luso-African artists living in Lisboa such as Chalo Correia, Julinho da Concertina (both in Recyclart last 2 years) and next week in Recyclart with band Conjunto Contratempo > Holidays: Conjunto Contratempo / Celeste Maripose +Extras ! !. Expect wild funana, funky coladeira, shaking semba, rebita and much much more!
https://soundcloud.com/celestemariposa

LiloCox (Principe Discos label, PT)
Once more we invite one of the young producer talents of the Lisboa label Principe Discos. LiloCox has been part of the Principe family since the early beginnings, supported by the scene’s godfathers Nervoso, Marfox and Nigga Fox. Together with Firmeza and Maboku, LiloCox is part of the Os P.D.D.G crew (Piqueno DJ’s Do Guetto / Little DJ’s from the ghetto), formed out of admiration for their elders and their sound. A sound that was followed through by these young kids from the rough Quinta do Mocho neighbourhood, not far from Lisbon airport’s main runway. Expect batida’s, kuduro, deep sexy house, traditional African melodies (evocative Funaná accordions), epic horns calling to a love battle on the dancefloor.

Rebel Up Gato Seb (Bxl)
The only non-Portuguese on the bill as local Bxl support. Part of the Brussels global crew Rebel Up!, which needs no introduction for those who know their underground global nights. Expect some hot warming up in Luso African spheres, from vintage sounds to contemporary LX beats.

Wed 7 June > Africa Negra concert @ Muziekpublique, Bxl > Sao Tomé Afro funk

Africa Negra in Brussels!
The legendary Sao Tomé band, only show in Belgium @ Muziekpublique.

The band is extremely renowned in the lusophone African countries and its worldwide diaspora, be it Europe or North and South America (Colombia especially!), and are loved for their own inimitably guitar based style of heavenly mellowed São Tomé Rumba, Soukous or Socopé, with blissful hints of Highlife. Their first three records are highly sought after by record collectors and unsung gems of african insular music. If you are not familiar with it, here are a few of their classics of our own choice > Carambola, Que Santomé, Nao Nao Senhor.

They have undergone through several different formations; but never really stopped and their current formations includes three members from the early days  (the charismatic lead singer JoĂŁo Seria, lead guitar player Leonildo Barros and bass guitarist Albertino). In 2014 they celebrated their 40th anniversary and that brought  the band back to their brother country of Portugal for a few performances (Lisbon at Club B’leza and FMM Festival in Sines), something which hadn’t happened since the early 80’s as well as a historical first appearance at in Berlin at the Weltmusik Festival. They had never played outside of Portugal before; even if they kept busy in their home country. Here the video of their performance on national television.

We made a special Rebel Up edit for this concert, check it here and free to download! 🙂
