1st Rebel Up Nightshop radio show *emission 0*

Yo folks,

Our very first radio show session, “emission 0” on Radio Campus Bxl, broadcasted on 11th of january and to be repeated several times during the month. The show was actually recorded in late august and we had to wait a while before it was accepted into the Campus programme schedule. We kick off with 2 songs, followed by a label focus about the Sahel Sounds label that mostly releases current folk & electronic music from the sub Saharan region. Then we played our albums of the month, which were Hailu Mergia (on Awesome Tapes From Africa) and Grand Kallé & l’Orchestre Jazz (on Planet Ilunga), followed by a global style focus on Pandza music from the south of Mozambique, a new electronic Marrabenta Shangaan style. In the nightshop segment we interview local Afghani shop owner Raza Wasiq of the Economat shop on Av Stalingrad and he chooses 2 ‘Hazzari’ songs to play. Rebel Up! @ *Global Bass Thursdays*, Zomerfabriek, Antwerpen

Hey folks,

on Thursday 15 august we´re invited by our friends from Tsigani to play a fun global dance set @ *Global Bass Thursdays* in Zomerfabriek Antwerp between 22:00 and 0:30h. Expect a session of global colours, sounds n flavours that you maybe don´t always hear in our sets with a fine wide selection of Caribbean, South American, African, Arabic and Asian sounds, worldtrip style!
It´s free in too, so no loss there 🙂

Time for another Rebel Up! session at Recyclart!
We are co-hosting this special African/Ethiopian night with the good Recyclart folks as part of a concert night with Ukandanz and Zea for whom we are playing support with eastern African and other modern African tunes.

Zea (Arnold de Boer, The Ex) will kick off the night with some of his eclectic African inspired punkrock songs with electronic effects and samples between Delta blues, Ghanese riffs, Ethiopian electrofolk and gabba beats.

uKanDanZ is a French-Ethiopian outfit that plays some serious electrified folky punkjazz with Asnake Guebreyes on vocals (from the late Mohammed Jimmy Mohammed band). Pure energy spiritualised with emotional drives to make the crowd go wild and shiver in Ethiopian dance stylee. Listen to their new album on Deezer and check out the video >

As always with Rebel Up! hosted nights, a part of the proceedings will go to a NGO project, in this case the Ethiopia-project of The Ex/Zea in the capital Addis Abeba where they support a music school for blind and handicapped children and other programmes. You can also make a donation at the bar if you like.
