This saturday, there´s the Eastern Daze Festival, organised by KRAAK in De Vooruit, Gent.

Just check the awesome lineup for true lovers of experimental folk & trancedental music
though we can defo recommend Portugese string artist Norberto Lobo and the Moroccan sufi outfit Master Musicians of Jajouka, but all the others will be equally special.

There also will be a vinyl & cassette market from 19:00 onwards with lots of good selections.
And at the end of the night, Rebel Up! SebCat & friends will play some global folk tunes & trancedental sounds for a dance or two

The beatmaking DJ of the famous Spanish nu-flamenco hiphop mestizo band Ojos de Brujo, has produced many of their albums and remixes, toured the world allover. Nowadays he also works on musical projects like Lenacay and Electrorumbaiao and is quite busy spinning ethnic tunes from all over the world with loops and electronics. DJ KUMBIA BEATS (BO / Antwerp)
is the dj alter ego of Marco Bustamante born in Beni, Bolivia, descendant from the Quechua culture and plays all the native Bolivian folk music instruments like quena, charango, pinkillos, tarkas, zampoñas, etc. In 2010 he started his own concept about Colombian cumbia combined with electro, drums and bass, funk, Bolivian folk, global bass and rock. He’s also the leader of cumbia band ‘Los Demonios de la Cumbia’ a live group playing traditional cumbia combined with beats and synth samples by Dj Kumbia Beats. Cumbia for life!

5 & 6 Nov > supporting Mdou Moctar in Ghent (Vooruit) & Brussels (Recyclart)

Our favorite young tuareg rocker Mdou Moctar and his band from Niger are touring Europe again, and we had a little hand in getting them these 2 Belgium shows. Sahel sounds in the house!

We’ll be dj-ing sahelian sound support in Ghent, hopefully with Chris from Sahel sounds too >

on wednesday 5 nov in the café of De Vooruit venue (Ghent), and it’s a free show! FB event

and next day on thursday 6 nov Mdou plays in Recyclart (Brussels), with Belgian-Congolese band Shengen Shege of David Bovee (Think Of One). doors 20:30, 5€ in. FB event.

This friday Rebel Up! SebCat is playing a special gig in Brussels.
Not a Halloween party, but a party for the *sans papiers* residents of the Petit Chateau / Klein Kasteeltje refugee centre (the old barrack for military service), organised by the Recyclart to brighten up their residence in Brussels.

The focus will not be on SebCat’s tune selection, but on the music that the people can bring through phone simcards, usb and mp3 players to have the songs of their choice played for a true people’s party. So far we know that in the 200 residents, there’s a broad scope of nationalities, from Syrians to Egyptians, Kurdish, Afghani’s, Bosnians, Albanians, Eritreans and more.

Since it’s a party for the residents only, places for external folks are very limited to 15 people only.

Womex 2014 Santiago de Compostela aftermath

Last friday our nightly Rebel Up! dj showcase set at Womex went quite well, such fun we had 🙂

Before this in the afternoon, we had an amazing multi dj session at the Wapapura solar disco as part of the Global Club Music network that we are part of, with dj’s such as Kosta Kostov, Boris Viande, Sauvage FM, Darius Darek, Sound Culture, Esta Polyesta, Criolina, Dala Dala, Miriam Kokako music, Evviva Show and even a special guest performance of Carmen (Gato Preto!!) . then our showcase in Sala Capitol. So nice to see all the true party folks staying n dancing until the very end of our rough world hopping set. Near the end we did a special improvisation with our Canadian friends Tamar (vocals) & Briga (on violin) who improvised on our balkan tallava beats. 24/25/26 Oct: Rebel Up! @ WOMEX Expo Santiago de Compostela; dj showcase + 2 gigs in Porto

and we’re back from our succesful Canada tour! It was a lot of fun, made new friends and got in touch with local global music networks, so in short; it was awesome (to use a Canadian keyword for everything). See pics here.

Soon we will again be off for a small tour, down south to Spain and Portugal!
We have been selected to play a dj showcase set at WOMEX world music expo in pilgrim city Santiago de Compostela (Galicia) on friday 24 Oct. So yeah, let’s go for it. We also will be present at the day expo as part of the Global Club Music Network together with some other good global dj’s. Find us at stand 1.86

Afterwards we will travel down to the beautiful city of Porto, where on saturday night we will play a dj/vj set at the nice Passos Manuel cinema venue, followed on sunday by a special evening dinner listening set in the arty Miss’Opo hotel.
