a quick Brussels shoutout for 2 upcoming evenings/nights.
This Thursday 29 march @ KultuurKaffee, there’s another free KK World night; a special Suriname night! The Suriname/Dutch bands Kara Dara and Lobi Firi from Amsterdam will play their special kaseko funk and kawina styles which have heavy roots in west-African musical soil, but with a seriously latin/caribbean twist to it. doors open at 19:30, bands on around 20:30.

On Thursday 5th of april @ cafe Bonnefooi is another special free night; our good friends of the Brussels Up! soundsystem are supporting cumbia dancehall duo Fauna from Buenos Aires (ZZK records, AR) who will play a live set. It´s free in!
Fauna expected to be on somewhere after midnight, check out their neo-tropical flashy video, oh!

This friday another heavy Nightshop party coming up at Recyclart; a special Tel Aviv massiv’ party with multi-producer Sabbo, the Ethiopian/Yemen duo Axum and DJ Prince of Persia, supported by local Brussels wizard DJ Mellow (Low Up) and our Dutch friends of the Bomb Diggy crew. Also our very own Sebcat will be filling in for Brussels Up! buddy Leblanc (who had to cancel due to a southern trip), he´ll be doing the warm up slot from 23h till midnight, so be early if you want to catch some unheard Middle Eastern electronics and other new stuff. on thursday 1 march, Rebel Up! will be supporting the Congolese-Belgian hiphop-rumba rapper Baloji @ KultuurKaffee, VUB campus, Brussels.
His new project ‘Kinshasa Succursale´ with various Congolese musicians promises to swing from old rumba soukous glory to modern urban hiphop times.

It has been a while since we sadly had to cancel our december night due to unforeseen reasons, but we’re back with fresh energies to give you a special night of Rebel Up! sounds. Not our Congolese rumba night as previously promised, that one will happen in June! This will be a *global psyche night*, meaning we will focus on experimental & improvised global sounds as well as vintage pop/rock spheres from the 60’s and 70’s from different corners of the world. Ofcourse we’ll also give you a nice dose of heavy bass deeper into the night to big up the Rebel Up! kaleidoscope.
We’re happy to announce our special American guest Arrington de Dionyso (ex-Old Time Relijun, the psychedelic krautrock band from overseas & Malaikat dan Singa) who will bring his trans-utopian throatsinging, bass clarinet, inspired by Indonesian trance music as a live improvisation of global psychedelic proportions. Our second guest will travel from less far Brussels, Belgium. DJ Lowdjo is an eclectic wizard of the sort that totally fits the Rebel Up! mood and we’re also happy to have him joining our global cause of diasphoric sound. He will play special vintage sets of Thai folk funk and Turkish psychedelic rock straight out of his 45’s collection that will get everyone swinging. As always, the Rebel Up! crew will play electic ethnic sound and everything in between to make you listen & dance while our visuals will make sure there’s never a dull moment on the dancefloor.
The charity of the night where we will donate our profits to is NGO Bhakti Luhur in Malang, Eastern Java, which takes care of handicapped children. One of the aid workers is a dutchman who runs the excellent Madrotter blog, all about Indonesian pop, rock and folk music from the past with quality uploads, though since the whole megaupload bust his blog has been relocated at Madrotter Treasure Hunt.
