This month of July we have a 3,5 hours long Nightshop show, 9 albums of the month and new songs, with a big focus on music from Africa. Starting with songs of the day; COVID-19 kologo music from Ghana (Ayuune Sule), and jazz from International Anthem label (by Anteloper and Angel Bat Dawid). Our albums of the month start with desert songwriting by Ak’Chamel (Akuphone), the early tsapiky cassette years by Damily (Bongo Joe), Bandé-Gamboa project between Guiné-Bissau & Cabo Verdian musicians (Heavenly Sweetness) and new ethiofunk by Mulatu Astakte & Black Jesus Experience (Agogo Records). It gets more percussive and electronic with albums by Malawi ritual drumming group Doctor Kanuska Group (1000Hz), Ugandan heavy electro tribalism by Nihiloxica (Crammed Discs), Portuguese percussive dub band HHY & the Macumbas (Nyege Tapes), deep Congolese futurism by Bantou Mentale (Glitterbeat) and a Dutch-Sierre Leone EP by producer Ramses3000 (Intercept) and Nigerian female rapper Aunty Razor (Blanc Manioc). tune in!

Starting with a new single by Derya Yildirim & Grup Simsek and followed by an album of Kurdish folk musician Brader Musiki on Terp Records (The Ex label). We travel to Ghana with the funeral songs album Fra Fra on Glitterbeat and highlife/afrobeat group Santrofi on Out Here Records. The amazing Afro-Colombian pacific coast compilation ‘Guasá, Cununo y Marimba’ is filled with polyphonic and percussive songs from 70’s/80’s on Vampisoul & Palenque Records. Up to Haïti for Chouk Bwa & The Angstromers with vodou and analog bass in an electrifying sound on Bongo Joe Records. Down to the Venezuelan coast for producer Caribombo where afro latin electronics meet Africa on Galletas Calientes label. Savage Project duo from Malaga, Spain mix Andalucian, flamenco, cumbia and northern african influences into electronic sound and Moroccan producer Guedra Guedra from Casablanca blends traditional berber folk music in a bass sound on On The Corner label. Italian producer A-Tweed connects celtic & african sounds on Afrobotic Musicology label and we end with a new single by Swiss trio AMAMI. Listen here below >>>

This month’s Rebel Up Nightshop show (April 2020, via Radio Campus Bruxelles) is done in quarantine, home recorded as a big 2 hour mixtape with 10(!) albums of the month. Look out for some current candid COVID19 spoken word soundbites throughout the show as awareness or social political counteraction.
Starting with a psychedelic oriental tune by Baharat on Batov Records and followed by the new Ethiofunk-meets-dub album ‘Yene Mircha’ by Hailu Mergia on Awesome Tapes From Africa. After this, Argentinian outsider band Los Siquicos Literalenos and their experimental chamame folk sound out on Hive Mind Records and followed by the reissue of Peruvian Amazonian cumbia band Ranil Y Su Conjunto on Analog Africa, rare recordings from the 1970’s. We travel to Turkey via German Turkish migrant communities on the Uzelli Electro Saz compilation with psychedelic folk from 70’s & 80’s and followed by contemporary northern Greek folk music album by Evritiki Zygia on Teranga Beat label. Then we travel to Morocco, to the Master Musicians of Jajouka & Bachir Attar reissue on vinyl by Zehra label from a 1991 recording and we travel up into the Iberian peninsula for the compilation Codex Futura Vol.1 on Samain Music digital label with contemporary electronic folk music from Spain & Portugal. El Buho brings his new electronic latino album ‘Ramas’ on Wonderwheel label and we end the show in oriental electronic rave sounds via French duo Ko Shin Moon (‘Leila Nova’) on Akuphone and Palestinian duo Zenobia (‘Halak Halak’) on Crammed Discs.
