from tuesday 23 october til sunday 28 oct, Rebel Up will be present at the WOMEX world music expo fair & showcase festival. This year it will take place in Las Palmas in the Canary Islands.

Like every year on the wednesday night, with the Global Club Music Network we will to settle into WOMEX with new friends and old acquaintences and doing an official off-Womex party @ Shack bar. We will have the cream of Las Palmas’ DJ scene going B2B with members of the Global Club Music Network.

Marockin’ Brass is the brainchild band of jazz composer/music maker Luc Mishalle, together with Brussels Moroccan musicians such as Maalem Driss Filali (guimbri, vocals), Abdessamad Semlali and Badr Derras, aided by percussionist Roel Poriau (Think of One / Antwerp Gyspy Ska Orchestra) and Tunisian electronic beatmaker Sofyann Ben Youssef (Kel Assouf, Ammar808). Also with Brussels multicultural musicians Esinam Dogbatse, Jean-Paul Estievenart, Veronique Delmelle, Pascal Rousseau, Jean Gnonlonfoun and a string of guest musicians.

Expect some steaming gnaoua or sweaty shaabi-funk accompanied by some redhot brass and free flowing jazz that will blow the sand out of your ears!

Rebel Up is proud to present their 7th release > the album release party of Brussels/Moroccan gnawa jazz band Marockin’ Brass, who will present their new album ‘Beats & Pieces’ for the first time during an in-house concert at MetX in les Marolles!  and what better > FREE IN!

Nuri is an established name on the Tunisian underground scene, where, as drummer, he has been a part of numerous alternative music projects. Also DJ, he is an impeccable selector and a skilled navigator in the universe of beats and sounds, wrapping traditional and world rhythms in a club house clothing.
Nuri has released his first album “Drup” on Shouka in August 2017.

SebCat is a fulltime musical nexus: he hosts the Nightshop radio show on Radio Campus Bxl, curator of countless Bxl parties & nights and he runs a DIY vinyl distro with the better global sounds. Soon he will kickstart the Rebel Up label (with releases from Portugal, Angola, Cabo Verde, Ghana, Iraq, Mexico and Peru coming up!). A very special Afro Latino concert & party night with an Afro Portuguese touch, with the band Ussu N’Djai & The New Balansa from Guinee Bissau/Senegal/Amsterdam and producer/DJ Pigmaliao from Brasil and more surprises.

the Amsterdam-based group of Ussumane ‘Balansa’ N’djai brings an exciting mix of different West-African music styles (m’balax, m’gumbeh, Afro-Mandingo, Carribean reggae, salsa and funk.) Balansa composed the songs with texts in different West-African languages such as Wolof, Mandingo, Creole, French, English and Portugese, a true afro latin mixture with cultural roots.

Pigmalião is the materialization of the reference from the label Frente Bolivarista and remains in constant transformation alongside the label release narrative. Frente Bolivarista has made a stellar rise over the past year to be one of the labels to watch for the future of Latin America music.  Brazilian musical legacy has always seemed somewhat set apart from the rest of the continent but the label, alongside the growing links between booming São Paulo and Buenos Aires, Quito or Lima shows that the tide is changing. It is indeed the becoming, and going even further than, the musical version of Bolivar’s dream: a global collaboration of new, inter infected, border hopping sounds shaping the future of Latin American music.
