May Day: 15% discount action on Rebel Up Bandcamp and new digital release by Satanic Samba Trio

hello all,

Bandcamp is again kindly waiving their fees for 24h during May Day, so that artists can receive more money with their digital music sales or merch.

At Rebel Up we combined this with a 15% discount action that will run for the whole weekend until sunday midnight 25 May. Check our Bandcamp page and claim your discount.

And we have another May Day special >

a new digital only release on our label by Satanique Samba Trio titled “Instant Karma”.

Satanique Samba Trio’s most recent release WAS SUPPOSED TO BE the first liquid album in history: taking advantage of the short-lived exposure provided by Instagram Stories, your favorite Brazilian experimental quintet (yes, quintet), known for its brief-but-complex-deconstructed-Brazilian-rhythm-pieces, presented the world with a 15-second lo-fi tune every day throughout the month of February 2019. It’s a true trip into the tropi-concrete world of SS3.

In accordance with Instagram Stories’ rules, each song was available online for exact 24 hours, only to disappear FOREVER, leaving a faint sketch of Brazil’s musical diversity on the ethereal surface of your memory. Ground breaking, right? Yeah, but only for a year or so, as illegally downloaded versions of the tunes started to pop up around the Russian web.
Well, it was fun while it lasted.

The good news is now you can have Instant Karma in your HD as a chock-full digital package. Let it drip.

SPIRITCZUALIC ENHANCEMENT CENTER (Akuphone)
Giving birth via impromptu instrumentals to glimpses of synchronistic magic, these Spiritczualics remain agnostic: are they magicians, or merely charlatans?
Spiritczualic Enhancement Center is an outernational movement.
A traveling nexus collecting dozens of participants to explore alchemical realms of sonic ritualism. Fusing DIY electronics with experimental improvisation and traditional instruments, recurring collaborators have studied under masters of Andalusian music, ethno-music research as well as important underground venues in Berlin and Hamburg’s musical scenes. Visual artist Dima Rabik contributes his miniature ink drawing style to all Spiritczualic releases – as well as a live-drawing projection during performances.

Spiritczualic (“cz” borrowed from the Polish / tʂ / hard “tch”) – a word-melange of “ritczualic” and spiritual, reflects upon the ancient practice of musical ritualism. As an idea, it greatly predates the physical occurrence of the Enhancement Center – on Christmas 2017, when an Ottoman building below the Gates of Jerusalem provided itself for a remarkable meeting. The trespassing people who happened to be there – admittingly bizarre participants synchronized by state-of-mind rather than tune or scale – began exploring sonic sessions of do-it-yourself mysticism. Witnesses of its ritualistic gatherings have indeed reported moments of divination – and possibly sorcery. This raises the question, will the audience once again behold the allurement of Higher Sources – or rather testify to trickery.“

14494639_706010616216661_1293312489363648483_n

This Friday evening a special evening in underground venue Le Lac (Molenbeek, not to confuse with Les Ateliers Claus)

Phoenician Drive (Bxl)
At the crossroads of Mediterranean folk music and psychedelic rock, Phoenician Drive was formed in summer 2015 by percussionist Diego Moscoso grouping 6 musicians from very different backgrounds (flamenco, Balkan, psychedelic rock’n’roll, jazz, post -punk / new wave) for blending traditional designs with fuzz guitars and oriental rhythms. In the footsteps of Erkin Koray and Orient Express and under the influence of ‘kraut-rock German (Neu !, CAN, Faust etc.) and soundtracks 60’s music, Phoenician Drive Search hypnotic trance by relying on oriental grooves. Two demos were recorded in December 2015 and quickly attracted interest in Brussels (Ateliers Claus WIELS, Recyclart, Atelier 210) and elsewhere (Rockerill, Area B in Paris). An EP is being mixed into the hands of Débruit (label ICI).

The concert will start at 20h sharp by a prologue without electricity, enlightened by 400 artisanal candles.

Sat 29 Oct > experimental evening by Rebel Up! & Lexi Disques @ NGHE Mediatheque with Porest (US/IR), Blood Stereo (UK), City Hands (NL) & Benjamin Franklin (Bxl)

Salam!
14725767_1785415645009331_8060045096061241209_nOn Saturday 29 Oct, an experimental concert night in the NGHE mediatheque! Organised by NGHE crew, Rebel Up! & Lexi Disques.

From synthesizer sounds to global cut up music, weirdo pop and adventures in sound.

Porest (US/IR)
Mark Gergis is quite a catch; founder of the Sham Palace label, long time collaborator of Sublime Frequencies and member of disbanded Asian pop group Neung Phak. Porest is his post-globalized hate pop project, with cabalistic text-to-speech drama and violent tape music against soapbox anthems and swirling barbed-wire psychedelia that indulges in the trappings of art and politics. Listen here.
At 18h, he will show 3 short movies that he made in Syria, Cambodia and Southeast Asia, in true Sublime Frequencies style!

Blood Stereo (Brighton, UK)
The masked duo Karen Constance & Dylan Nyoukis explore hand-cranked 20th century technology in combination with epiglottal gymnastics and free music modes inherited as much from punk rock’s mutilated aesthetic as utopian art styles. Music here.

City Hands (NL)
Dutch sound artist Manuel Padding aka City Hands approach brings unexpected sounds, from calm atmospheres to trippy vibrations and even poetry. His narratives generally evoke a world where humans no longer prevail, a stream of words lurking into post-apocalyptic loneliness and colourful magic.

Benjamin Franklin (Bxl)
Casio keyboard player Benjamin Franklin puts out graceful and mysterious home-taped recordings of hypnotic melodies, sweet ballad and deviant pop. Perfect warmup sounds to gently shake body & mind.

> finishing at 22h30, so please come on time!
possibly there will some veggie food too for those who come early.

18h > 3 short films of Mark Gergis (Syria – Cambodia – Southeast Asia)

Fri 26 Sept > Rebel Up! dj @ Post-Anatol psychedelic concert night, Les Ateliers Claus w/ Hayvanlar Alemi (TR), Powerdove (US), Yann Gourdon & Hervé Boghossian

Hayvanlar Alemi
Hayvanlar Alemi is a psychedelic folk rock band founded in Ankara. They got together in secondary school in 1999, when they were 14. Classical rock and heavy metal were big influences on teenagers in Ankara then, and they started their musical venture playing hard-and-heavy covers, but very soon self-discovered free improvisation and moved into a more avant-garde approach, and later on occasionally deployed traditional instruments, found-sound elements like live radio, and colorful stage theatrics. They were influenced by the new folk-infused experimental rock scene of the late 90s Istanbul, but isolated from any music scene in Ankara, their sound and song-structure diverged from their contemporaries as they incorporated elements from the findings of their musical research into their sound, which included folk, pop and hybrid sounds of South East Asia, East and West Africa, South America and Russia, as well as Jamaican dub reggae and Californian surf. In 2010, their album Guarana Superpower came out on outernational label Sublime Frequencies and they have just released their latest album Twisted Souvenirs on Unrock.
arrest
is the project of pianist Annie Lewandowski from Minnesota, a place full of things that are long and longer: church services, dinner tables, and worry lines, to name a few. Somebody said there are ten thousand lakes there; if that’s true, each of them shows up in some little way in Annie’s songs. She writes under the name Powerdove, which began as a band of one in California in 2007 and was soon joined by John Dieterich (of noise pop outfit Deerhoof) and French guitarist Thomas Bonvale (L’ocelle Mare). Her new album ‘Arrest’ was recorded in one day and features playfull ballads that sound soft and dangerous like stolen kisses, sensual yet filled with joyous threats from the heart that disregard reason.
Yann Gourdon & Hervé Boghossian : Ce duo acoustique créé en février 2014, joue une musique imprégnée d’un minimalisme primitif à l’apparente aridité et qui révèle sa profondeur dans l’expérience d’écoute de l’espace.
