Sat. 25 Aug; Rebel Up! Soundclash > afro caribbean night with Lobi Firi (NL/SR) & Unsoundbwoy (AU)

Hello all!

Hope you had a good summer holiday where it might have taken you. Oh boy, it’s been roasty warm and sunny here the last few weeks. Time for another Rebel Up! Soundclash and we’ll keep it hot with some tropical Afro-Caribbean action with live Surinami band Lobi Firi and Ozzie global guest dj Unsoundbwoy from Melbourne.

Surinami band Lobi Firi will play their very special kaseko funk and kawina sound, impossible not to dance til you sweat! The band will start around midnight, so get in on time.

Unsoundbwoy will play a grinding selection between heavy dancehall and african electronic dance music, kuduro and more. Check some of his excellent mixes and mashups!

And the some, ofcourse the Rebel Up! dj’s will never miss out on a good Soundclash party. Expect a steady selection of unknown global tunes filled with sweet melodies for the ear or bouncing bass for the body. Watch out that you don’t get wrongfooted playing hopscotch with these onorthodox boy scouts.

Any profit on the night will go to NGO Bhakti Luhur in Eastern Java, which takes care of handicapped children. One of the aid workers is a dutchman who runs the excellent Madrotter Treasure Hunt blog, all about Indonesian pop, rock and folk music.

See ya there!

Hello,

This Thursday 29 march @ KultuurKaffee, there’s another free KK World night; a special Suriname night! The Suriname/Dutch bands Kara Dara and Lobi Firi from Amsterdam will play their special kaseko funk and kawina styles which have heavy roots in west-African musical soil, but with a seriously latin/caribbean twist to it. doors open at 19:30, bands on around 20:30.
More info, see the KultuurKaffee site or the FB event.

On Thursday 5th of april @ cafe Bonnefooi is another special free night; our good friends of the Brussels Up! soundsystem are supporting cumbia dancehall duo Fauna from Buenos Aires (ZZK records, AR) who will play a live set. It´s free in!
Fauna expected to be on somewhere after midnight, check out their neo-tropical flashy video, oh!

-without Rebel Up dj Sebcat though, as he´s travelling and spinning here and there in Brazil & Argentina the next 4 weeks-

hasta la pasta!

Friday 16 march; Rebel Up! dj Sebcat @ Nightshop Tel Aviv/Israel party > Recyclart, Brussels

Ahoy folks,

This friday another heavy Nightshop party coming up at Recyclart; a special Tel Aviv massiv’ party with multi-producer Sabbo, the Ethiopian/Yemen duo Axum and DJ Prince of Persia, supported by local Brussels wizard DJ Mellow (Low Up) and our Dutch friends of the Bomb Diggy crew. Also our very own Sebcat will be filling in for Brussels Up! buddy Leblanc (who had to cancel due to a southern trip), he´ll be doing the warm up slot from 23h till midnight, so be early if you want to catch some unheard Middle Eastern electronics and other new stuff. For more info on the night, go here.

Check the radio promo we did on the Tortoli & Arbatax show @ Bxl pirate station Radio Panik

and oh! Sebcat’s Indonesiadelica mixtape is now also online at our mixcloud. check it here!

sat. 27th aug > Rebel Up! Soundclash @ OCCII, A’dam > Rebel Up! meets Bassculture crew

yeehawww.

time to kick off a new Rebel Up! Soundclash season at OCCII. From now on our parties will be once every 2 months instead of every month, just to keep it fresh and focused.

Coming saturday 27th, the Rebel Up! crew will meet the Bassculture crew from A’dam for a night of tropical bass, roots & funk, exotic folkpop and other vintage sounds to dance to. check the facebook event here.

Ofcourse our profits will go to a good charity as usual. With the heavy famine that is waging in the horn of Africa right now, we would like to raise emergency funds for the NGO SEED Samburu / Edukans. We also hope that everyone can donate whatever they can spare…it all helps!

A few weeks ago, the UN World Food programma decided to stop sending food reliefs to the tribal region of Central Sambura where the Samburu people live (a pastoral-nomadic tribe related to the Masai) and instead all food now goes to the refugee camps. It’s unfair that the UN turns their back on the Samburu and choose to let them starve. All the educational progress that has been made the past few years by NGO’s like Seed Samburu is on the point of being swooped away because without food, there is no education. Just 10 euro’s will already feed a Samburu child for a full month at school. This is the only daily meal they get as their own families are not able to feed them. Please give the Samburu kids a meal a day so that their life & education can continue!

If you are in Holland, you can also donate through this Edukans link or if you are elsewhere in the world, check the SEED Samburu site.
