This sunday at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam, there will be a viewing of the film Don´t Think I´ve Forgotten by american director John Pirozzi. It´s about the Cambodian pop & rock scene of the 60´s n 70´s just before the Khmer Rouge came into power and killed off most of these musicians or put them into death camps. The lost generation of Cambodian music.
Afterwards SebCat will do a short talk about this music scene from his own passionate perspective and then play a dj set in the Scopitone Café with Cambodian pop & rock tunes from that era.
Come and watch n listen!

This coming friday 16 May, Pantropical organises a super special Congolese night in Worm are totally psyched to finally be able to host a rare LIVE show by Color Rumba! They are masters at playing classic Congolese rumba soukous from the sixties to the eighties; super infectious and dancable music! Some of their bandmembers performed with famous Congolese bands such as Franco’s Orchestre T.P.O.K. Jazz, Zaiko Langa Langa and Demba. Don’t miss out on this one!

• Yan Koy & COLOR RUMBA (RDC/BE)
This band’s mastery of the Congolese soukous from the 1960s to 1980s will bring you to dance! Rumba is a genre of dance music that originated from Cuban Rumba in the Belgian and French Congo during the 1940s and later garnered popularity throughout Africa, followed by the Soukous style with a more modern upbeat sound from the late 70’s onwards. Led by singer Yan Koy, Color Rumba is a band with a revolving cast of members such as luminaries Petit Poisson (guitar), Pappy Muntu (bass), Alonzo Baba (drums) and others who played in famous Congolese bands like Franco’s TPOK Jazz and Zaiko Langa Langa. In their two hour live set, Color Rumba will take you to the Congolese nirvana of tropical rock with beautifully cascading, sparkling guitar melodies, a super tight and hypnotic rhythm section and polyphonic vocals. Absolutely essential!
• ALEX FIGUEIRA (VE – Vintage Voudou, Music with Soul)
Venezolan/Portugese Alex Figueira is a pleasantly obsessed vinyl junkie, label man, musician and dj. He is a true music specialist on afro-venezuelan culture and runs the Vintage Voudou vinyl shop in the midst of Amsterdam’s red light district; a treasure trove of obscure 2nd hand tropical gems. Alex also puts out 45’s on his label Music With Soul and plays in the bands Papa Upa and Fumaça Preta. At Pantropical, Alex will spin the dopest African and Caribbean music. Raw but dancable stuff, vinyl only! http://www.vintagevoudou.com/ http://musicwithsoulrecords.com/
• SEBCAT (BE – Rebel Up!)
This boss man selector operates from Bruxelles; unearthing, filtering and mixing the best diasporic & rougher sounds from the global underground. He’s the motor behind many great party and concert nights in wellknown clubs like the Recyclart and Bonnefooi. Sebcat also writes for Gonzo magazine and recently honoured the seminal Sublime Frequencies label with the ‘Rajasthan Street Music’ 2lp compilation. http://www.mixcloud.com/Rebel_Uppa/ http://www.rebelup.org/
• LA PANTHЀRE NOIRE (CIV/NL)
Upbeat local kid Dani who once twiddled knobs and rearranged cable salads at Worm as part of the technical team. Using the same moniker for his paintings, he will do the buildup of this night, with a mix of soukous and afrohouse. More of the latter.

This Friday, another fun tropical dance night in Rotterdam in the grand squatted Poortgebouw harbour building on the Maas river, an amazing place really!
DJ’s of the night will be DJ Pinchado (AR) *straight outta La Boca!*, Saxixa and Rebel Up! Sebcat. Expect all sounds bouncy and tropical, from vintage chicha & cumbia to more digital and contemporary urban dance spheres. It’s cheap in too, you pay what you like by donation, we’ll go soft on your wallet but heavy on your feet 😉
this saturday in the heart of Rotterdam, Rebel Up! Sebcat will be playing during the musical programme of the International Film Festival Rotterdam. Dutch underground music magazine Gonzo (circus) is curating the night under the eclectic *Mind the Gap* theme and with a fine line-up of international artists;
Marcus Fjellström
Is a Swedish composer who plays neo-classical electronica and dark ambient for labels such as Miasmah. He also makes special animation movies about the cartoonish characters Odboy & Erordog and will perform these clips with his sounds.
Felix Kubin & Martha Colburn
The sound of this peculiar fella from the Hamburg underground always amazes and he always operates outside the boundaries of genres; from weird go go pop to super crazy electro fun, anything goes! Martha Colburn will join him with her strong visuals that intertwine heavy social issue, such as bloodthirsty dictators, paranoid crystal meth junkies, corrupt police and whatnot. Kubin & Colburn already worked together on the clip Big Bug Attack -below- This new set surely will be ‘aussergewöhnlich’.
Deadbeat
is the moniker of Scott Monteith, a Canadian-but-living-in-Berlin, the best place for someone who makes one of the best deep dub-techno at the moment. Deadbeat’s pulsating sound is right at home in Rotterdam true the gritty industrial and architecture-scaped feel of the city. Artist and geography seldom form such a unity as it will be on this night. Slowdancing is on!
Lowriders crew
These R’dam homeboys will close off the night with a heavy stew of dubby spheres of all things grime, step, trap and tech to make you move.
various Gonzo (circus) dj’s will play eclectic sounds in the bar downstairs, for all your listening or dancing pleasure.
Rebel Up! Sebcat is playing upstairs in the big room as part of the Gonzo (circus) crew and will play eclectic warmup sets inbetween the artists and some finetuned Rebel Up! global dance n bass sounds from the tropics and urban spheres later into the night.
Should be great night indeed, hope to see you there!
