CONCERTS POUR La Grande Ouverture
Gratuit !

Chicos y Mendez 20:00
Concert alter-latino
This musical group was born from the meeting of two songwriters, two musicians with varied influences but complementary talents. One of Brussels from Peruvian origin (David Méndez Yépez), the other native Liégeois (Thibault Quinet aka “Tito”). The result of this meeting: a true music of sharing, this one releases emotions beyond the terrestrial and linguistic borders.

Sun 14 Jan: Rebel Up @ Het Nieuwe Programmeren: Netwerkevent Global Sounds, Ancienne Belgique, Bxl

This sunday 14/01, a special network event in Ancienne Belgique, curated by Dutch/Belgian magazine Gonzo (circus) and DeBuren.

Global Sounds: another buzzword or just the key to attract a more diverse audience? And what are Global Sounds? And does an African band attract an African audience by definition? Programmers struggle with it, sometimes make radical choices or lose their course. For those who open the gate, it is an adventurous trip. By trial and error. It is an introduction to new actors from the field, new partners and a search for new audiences.

Together with Gonzo (circus) and deBuren, concert hall AB invites you to immerse yourself in The New Programming and Global Sounds one afternoon! with keynotes and discussions.

Our Rebel Up SebCat will be in a panel to discuss about new ways of programming global sounds in Belgium & Netherlands, together with our friend Rrita Jashari (VK Concerts), Marriette Groot (Underbelly media) and Kurt Overbergh (AB).

It’s free in but sadly the event is already full, and there is a waiting list.
Afterwards there is a concert of Indonesian ethno-noise band Senyawa as part of Europalia Indonesia.

Sat 6 Jan: Club Méditerranéen curated by Rebel Up ! w/ Tropikal Camel & Rafael Aragon @ Le Sucre, Lyon (FR)

a night curated by Rebel Up @ Le Sucre club, Lyon, rooftop culture & club!

A rich musical heritage and community, the territory of the Mediterranean is a breeding ground in which many new artists find their inspiration. East and West have never been so close when the sounds of Tunis, Istanbul or Cairo and the electronic diaspora seize electronics to revisit and transform their oriental influences.

For this first Club Méditerranéen night of the year, we can expect electro-Arab sets of rough and hypnotizing sounds by Rebel Up SebCat, Tropikal Camel and Rafael Aragon.

▬▬▬▬▬▬ LINE-UP ▬▬▬▬▬▬

» Tropikal Camel (Shouka / Jerusalem/Berlin)
Behind the ironically exotic alias of Tropikal Camel lies Roi Assaya, producer and MC from Jerusalem. He adopted this artist’s name when he moved to Berlin in 2013 and began a musical and political approach. As a true cultural archivist, he collects traditional music from North Africa and the Middle East, then recomposes these polyrhythms on Ableton, precipitates them in a future bass climate and “shamanic sound textures”.

» Rafael Aragon (Babylon Records / Global Hybrid / Paris/Bxl – FR/AL)
Rafael Aragón is a DJ / producer whose roots extend into Arab and Latin cultures, growing up in the Parisian suburbs in a cosmopolitan world that has shaped it. He started producing beats at the age of 20, obsessed by the idea of mixing folk music with more electronic patterns and creating a balance between organic and synthetic.

» Rebel Up SebCat (Rebel Up / Bruxelles – BE)
SebCat breaks the boundaries to represent youth and socio-political developments from around the world, through cosmopolitan music of the diaspora merged with (inter)local traditions.
