 dahaW ⅃ꓘ (GR/SYR) *live*
Somewhere was the beginning/Somehow will be the end/Everything is chaos/All is ONE “KL wahad” (Oud/folk guitar). In their first ever concert, they will explore the possibilities of the endless improvisation between borders and freedom.

Ko Shin Moon (FR) *live*
Paris duo Axel Moon and Niko Shin blur temporal and geographical boundaries. As Ko Shin Moon they mix acoustic instruments from different regions of the world though analogue machines, traditional instruments, electronic sampling and field recordings, taking the stage with a Saz and heaps of analogic synths. The first album of the band is a bodily trip through hybrid territories, fantasy soundscapes and colorful collages: from Oriental Europe to Northern Africa, Middle East or Southeast Asia and beyond. Reversing analogical listening in digital synthesis, as music for imaginary traveling in dancefloor trance. After numerous summer festivals allover Europe and Morocco, they have just returned from a residency in Caïro, Egypt and played at Trans Musicales Rennes Festival.

DJ Cheb Gero (Akuphone label / FR)
Genuine music lover and chronic collector, Cheb Gero has cleared up and digged into musical worlds ever since his teens. In 2015, He launched outernational label Akuphone in an “archiving” spirit, drawn by a desire to “explore the world through music”. Far from supporting a romantic or fetishist vision of extra-Western music, the label aims at linking these productions to their historical and political contexts, placing them back in the social and cultural conditions in which they emerged. He hosts the radio shows Decolonize Ur Mind and Radio Gero, as well as Parisian Northern African music nights such as Belleville Habibi. Check out his live cassette mix >

Fri 14 July Rebel Up Soundclash @ OCCII, A’dam w/ *live band* Apichat Pakwan (Thailand) + more

What a great vibe in Rotterdam last thursday at Pantropical / Los Mirlos concert and sunday the Wundergarten at Ruigoord. This friday is our final night in OCCII before they close for the holidays.

Special 10″ EP release party concert of Thai/Dutch group Apichat Pakwan + afterparty.
Apichat Pakwan is a group of musicians from Thailand & The Netherlands. They make what they call Esantronics, a hybrid mix of molam (folk music of the ethnic Lao, of whom the largest population is living in Esan, another name for Northeast-Thailand), dub, hiphop & electro.

The Thai musicians of the group are known as the most talented molam musicians of the new generation: Pongsapon Upani (1991) & Artit Krajangsree (1989). At the same time, they are well-respected innovators of the genre who mix new technologies with the original acoustic instruments of Lao folk music. Furthermore, Pongsapon is the regular kaen-player (mouthorgan that is the main instrument in molam) of legendary artists Chaweewan Dumnern & Angkanang Khunchai, and a gifted molam-singer himself. Named after last-mentioned molam-diva, Apichat Pakwan is completed by Thai percussion-player Angkanang Pimwankum (1992), with her 25 years the youngest member of the group.

Apichat Pakwan released their first vinyl single ‘Angkanang’ in 2016 on Animist Records, a record label founded by Olivier Schreuder. Their second 10” single ‘E-Ong Muan Sun’ (meaning ‘Delicious Nutritious Banana’) will be presented on this night in OCCII and will be for sale during the night!
