Saturday 13th of feb; Rebel Up! Soundclash @ OCCII, A’dam with DJ Zhao (DE/CN) and more!

Ahoy all you globalsound loving people out there!

This time we will have a special guest from the far east!
DJ Zhao is the Chinese ambassador of boom bringing heat from around the world, connecting ancestral rhythms with hyper-modern sound. Active since 2000, Zhao has organized critically acclaimed long running events in the US from Sound Art to Experimental Techno. After moving to Berlin, he started the Ngoma Soundsystem collective and organised series of Global Bass parties in Berlin. This has brought him to various festival and parties allover Europe and now to Amsterdam for the first time ever! Equal parts ethno-musicologist and booty shaker, Zhao brings unique perspective and vision to every occasion, and has played nights with artists such as Pan Sonic, Rhythm and Sound, Cooly G, Shackleton and others.

Check his sounds here and look for the awesome Ngoma mix!

Vrijdag 12 feb; Rebel Up! Soundclash @ Vechtclub, Utrecht met DJ Zhao (DE/CN) en meer!

Ahoi,

new 1-Speed Bike record *Pashto Translator Needed*

good old Aidan Girt (ex-Godspeed You! Black Emperor) is back at it on the sociopolitical musical path made a new record under his 1-Speed Bike moniker. it’s a darn inspired one.
here’s what he says about it;

hello strangers

i made another record, this time about afghanistan…
http://1-speedfukinbike.bandcamp.com/
to get it for free…

twitter/share/link it around!

What is this war? They claim it’s to liberate woman and to fight drugs and terrorism but woman are worse off then under the Taliban and opium is triple and you can’t win a fight against a tactic. Anyways Osama Bin Laden used to work for them, like Manuel Noriega and Saddam Hussein, who will be next? Maybe its just to punish Afghanistan for being a mess because its been fucked over by other countries? So lets fuck them over too? People do fucked up things in Afghanistan, they hate woman and aren’t tolerant of other religions. We hate woman and anyone who isn’t christian so let’s bomb ourselves? Why do we only hear about Canadian soldiers dying? Why doesn’t the CBC report on how many Afghanis we kill every day? Do we ever kill any? Are we not very good soldiers? Does killing people get in the way of trying to save them? We don’t give a fuck about Afghanistan or Somalia or Haiti or Yemen or Ethiopia or Colombia or any Native Reserve in this country, of course not, no one in charge of this country cares about anything except making money and keeping power. And most people not in charge don’t care about anything beyond getting laid, making money, buying stupid shit they don’t need and pulling weird power trips on those closest to them. So fuck you too. Oh by the way, fuck your yellow ribbons, it’s a volunteer army, you take your chances, those bumper stickers are just a distraction. But what the fuck is wrong with us? Why do we let this go unopposed? Why aren’t we out there in the small town high schools talking to kids, the ones that the Canadian Army is out there recruiting? Why aren’t we out on the streets and malls about this?

Rebel Up! goes Brussels on fri 22nd of jan.> Nightshop Climate Jockey party @ Recyclart

Hey all,

Happy new 2010!
and yes, after A’dam & Utrecht, we’re also gonna start focussing on Brussels in 2010, and what more may come from it in Belgium or beyond!

This night will moreless be the start of our bimonthly nights in Brussels (Sat. 16th of april will be our first Rebel Up! party @ Recyclart)

Perhaps slightly different than our not-so-average Rebel Up! nights, this Climate Jockey night will be very heavy on global bass spheres. As we are starting the night with first sounds, we’ll do our best to heat up the floor with some tropical, sensual, tickling tunes from allover the globe.

We’re really proud to again play with our friend Hugo Douster from Lyon, who played with us in Utrecht last year. He sure will butter & fire up the dancefloor with his special style of tropical-rootsical bass selections, electronic body music with a tropical virus! His good friend Baxter Beez will play a similar crash course in bassheavy styles from the tropics. Further into the night, locally famed Brussels partycrasher DJ Lowdjo will spin his eclectic selections from everywhere.
