Wed 2 April > King Ayisoba & Band (GH) + Zea (NL) @ Ateliers Claus, Bxl

king-ayisoba-and-band
Special midweek fun coming up!!!!
Les Ateliers Claus & Rebel Up! present >

King Ayisoba & Band (GH)King is coming back to Brussels, and this time is bringing his band with him!

This is the traditional kologo music from the Upper East Region of Ghana brought with the energy and flavor of the 21st century. King Ayisoba sings in Frafra, Twi and in English and is a big star in Ghana. A whole new scene has started after King Ayisoba introduced the super catchy kologo beats to the bigger audiences in Ghana and abroad. The kologo is a two string guitar with a calabash gourd resonator, it is rhythmic and melodic at the same time. The King is bringing other musicians and dancers on this tour, dancing the traditional Frafra dia and kologo dances from the area of Bongo in Northern Ghana. The dance consists of very high jumbs and originates from hunting rituals. Aboku Adortanga (dancer and dorgo player) is King Ayisoba’s brother and is a master in playing the “Dorgo”, a special horn from Northern Ghana used in the traditional Frafra tradition of music. The sound resembles a lamb calling out loud and was original used by the Frafra people in the forest to gather the village people to come and hunt. Gemeka is an absolute master in playing the guluku, a local drum from Bolgatanga Soko in Northern Ghana. Since a few years the young Dagaati has been part of King Ayisoba’s band. At first he came to the concerts and kept coming and telling Ayisoba he could play Ayisoba’s songs on his xylophone. That was quite unusual, since Dagaati comes from the Dagaati region in upper west in Ghana. But the addition of the xylophone to the kologo, drums and voice works fantastic and Dagaati became a core musician of King Ayisoba’s band and it is already hard to imagine how the band sounded without this very talented young man. Not to be missed!

Support by Zea (NL)
Solo performance from Arnold de Boer (singer of punkband The Ex) deploying guitar and sampler for an almighty bout of high energy songs. Urgent energetic lyrics over guitar, roughshod beats and grimy bass lines.  This is fat-free music with no words wasted; joyfully obstinate, wonderfully bonkers.

Ghanaian musician King Ayisoba is be coming back to Brussels, this time with his original backing band from Ghana! For those who’ve never seen King play; expect African Bo Diddley blues of the 21st century using the Kologo – a two string lute instrument – and a sampler as key ingredients. Jumpy beats, catchy bass lines, rough primal vocals partly in english and in traditional languages

Hello folks,
The temperature in the city is rising so we also are heating up our Thursday nights, inviting some real hot acts from Ghana!

It’s Hemelvaart/Ascension, so hope you’re having a bridge weekend for another fine late night out 🙂

Rebel Up! dj’s will open the night around 22:00, followed by a live set of King Ayisoba around 23h/midnight, one of the leading kologo lute players when it comes to reinventing Northern Ghana’s traditional music. Distinctly original but keeping a more roots and universal approach to his music which gives it the power to touch both young and old. Deep and beautiful. He will be accompagnied by 2 Ghanese brass players from a highlife band and perhaps a talking drum too!

this concert has been rescheduled to wednesday 20 june after the show of 9 june was cancelled due to visa problems.

special night in Brussels at Ateliers Claus this Saturday with fresh sounds from Ghana!

KING AYISOBA is a number one star in Ghana, with a few big hits and one number one hit over the last five years. His song “I Want to see you my Father” is in the hearts and minds of every Ghanaian. King Ayisoba is part of the new Hip-Life scene and changed the scene with his new approach by using traditional instruments and songs together with the beats, bleeps and bass that make Hip Life so an exciting modern style. King Ayisoba plays the kologo, a two string instrument that originates from the north of Ghana. The sound is melodic and percussive at the same time. It works really well with the jumpy beats and catchy bass lines that come from his sampler. King Ayisoba sings partly in English and partly in his traditional own language, his lyrics are sometimes funny, often actual, very personal and always imaginative. Sometimes the music reminds of Bo Didley with its percussive catchy beat but this is blues of the 21st century and King Ayisoba is driving the cattle.
