on thursday, our Rebel Up Soundclash night in the Bonnefooi with 2 special guests. expect a night from electro cumbia to oriental beats, electro and beyond!

Electromanteca (CL)
This Chilean producer, DJ, and musician based in Buenos Aires (AR) with more than 10 years of focused musical creations (including a love affair with Digital Cumbia). His musical repertoire includes beats like hip-hop, global bass, and electronica mixed with tropical samplers. He founded the Perrera Cultural collective and has been the host of innovative parties in Buenos Aires – such as Boiler Roof and Peput! Currently, he is developing his first EP Nuevacumbiacción, a two-sided release with his own sound on side A and mashups on side B. His unique musical genius inspires and energizes souls worldwide as he journeys across the globe.

Lt.Dan (IL)
His love for music goes way back to his hometown Jerusalem, from making mixtapes to his parents’ parties when he was 10 years old, through working in “The Ear Way” music shop, where he acquired perspective, passion & fine ear for unusual sounds – from jazz, post punk, wave, classic & even pop. This wonderful house of music forged Dan’s sensitivity for esthetic sound and quenched his constant curiosity for new / old school music. After making his name in Tel Aviv with Legotek crew and many party concepts, he moved to the electronic mecca of Berlin, where he led the DonnersDucks party in Ritter Butzke for a few years. He regularly spins his sounds around Europe in cities like Hamburg, Milano, Warsaw, Prague, Vienna, Copenhagen, Paris & Barcelona to name a few, spreading his open minded music world to various dancefloors.

On friday, a new Ethno groove party in town: Giraffes & Penguins, in Matongé Ixelles!

Music travellers of Brussels, massage your feet carefully and place them into your most comfortable shoes as the road on friday 25th will be loooong. We’ll go on a musical exploration trip from the giraffes’ groovy *highlife* to the penguins’ psychedelic throat songs! The journey will start at 10pm @ Kuumba, in the heart of Matongé.

Your guides all night long will be Electromanteca (Chile), Rebel Up Sebcat, Dragan and Le Grand Méchant Loop.

Mdou Moctar
Thanks to label boss Christopher Kirkley, who can easily be described as the modern day Alan Lomax, Sahel Sounds has also become one of those unmissable benchmarks. To him we owe the discovery of Les Filles De Illigahdad (recently catchy at BRDCST) and the desert blues of Mdou Moctar. On his debut, Mdou Moctar further distinguished himself from other Touareg acts, like Bombino or Tinariwen, by the striking use of the auto-tune. Live, Mdou Moctar mostly sounds raw and extremely energetic. Moctar also provided the music for the very first Touareg film ‘Akounkounak Tedalat Taha Tazoughai’ about a young musician who wants to make it big. Fun Fact: the film was a remake of ‘Purple Rain’. He just has released his new allbum ‘Sousoume Tamachek‘ on Sahel Sounds. Desert power!

Derya Yildirim & Grup Simsek.
At the 10 years of Rebel Up / Nightshop party in Recyclart, some of you already had the good fortune of seeing Derya & Grup Simsek play. Hearing the voice of Derya Yildirim, it only takes a few seconds until your soul willingly allows itself to be bowled over. This singer/multi-instrumentalist namely possesses a unique voice that exudes both melancholy and longing. Musically, she is accompanied by Grup Şimşek that excels with its hypnotic Anatolian psych-pop. Let’s just say: a smooth mix of Turkish folk, grooves and psychedelica. Aside from own compositions, Derya Yildirim also interprets gems by Turkish artists like (protest)singer Selda Bağcan, rock pioneer Barış Manço, Moğollar (founding father of Turkish folk rock) and the Turkish poet Nazım Hikmet. A piece of trivia for the benefit of your inner joy: those who fall for the sound of Derya Yildirim, will also love Altin Gün who is to perform at Global Street Sounds (17.09.2017) in AB, curated by Rebel Up & AB.

Fri/Sat 18 & 19 Aug, Rebel Up NL weekender > Amsterdam @ De Ruimte + Leeuwarden @ Psy-Fi Festival

Hello NL!

This friday & saturday we’ll play a free gig in Amsterdam and at the psychedelic Psy-Fi in the Friesland nature near Leeuwarden.

Friday @ alternative venue De Ruimte in Amsterdam-Noord. During the summer they have their terrace open with live acts and DJ’s.

With Rebel Up we’ll host friday evening with global tunes and hopefully also a live act! Free in! from 20h til midnight.

Then next day, saturday, we’ll go up north to Friesland province, for the Psy-Fi festival in a natural park area of De Groene Ster with lakes and such, nature bliss!

Psy-Fi calls itself a psychedelic festival, so not a typical Goa trance festival as there is much more on offer. From yoga, tantric & body awareness and artistic area’s to several music stages of which also a world music stage called the Global Theatre with live acts & DJ’s and the place where we will play a dance set 🙂
Also our Brussels friends of live act Memo Pimiento will join us, wepa! For sure it will be a psychedelic, colourful experience, fingers crossed for sun!

Thu/Sun 10 + 13 Aug > Rebel Up in Mechelen & Turnhout

This thursday evening, Rebel Up! SebCat is playing in Mechelen at the temporary  Komeet summer beach bar. Global & tropical tunes from 18h til 23h, free in.

Also you can have for a tasty dinner made in an Oklahoma smoker, the menu consists of rack of smoked ribs, potato wedges with smoked mayo, crunch and coleslaw (17 €). Do reserve before thursday night, see their website or FB event.
and on sunday afternoon in Turnhout @ Barzoen café, SebCat will be spinning all kinda global tunes from 14h til 19h, free in. The menu at Barzoen is always filled with tasty worldly delights, from Latin America to Asia!

this coming weekend, Rebel Up weekend in Lisbon with parties on friday, saturday and sunday!

Starting friday at the alternative Crew Hassan venue!  a night hosted by Rebel Up: Lisboa Global Beat Clash, with some of Lisbon’s finest global dj’s.

Cigarra & BirdzZie, both of Tropical Twista records and Voodoohop, fine producers of electronic ethno beats, and who host the AncestroFuturismo nights allover Lisbon several times per month. They will play a set of ethno beats and tropical tempos.

Also joining us is dj Mushug, of amazing Lisbon Afro-Luso band Octa Push, a great producer and dj of global beats with Afro urban influences. Expect a deep dip into the African electronic underground

hosted by Rebel Up SebCat, with a set of sounds from the global underground.

after the very succesfull 1st & 2nd Festa Afro Tuga organised by Rebel Up & the NGHE Mediatheque, it’s time for #3, in the Barlok venue this time.

Celeste Mariposa (PT)
Wilson Vilares started out in the techno scene but the powerful music of the African ex-Portuguese colonies lured him in and he became a true connoisseur of the Luso-African music diaspora from Angola & Cabo Verde, Guinee Bissau, Sao Tomé and further. Last year a label under the same name, releasing talented Luso-African artists living in Lisboa such as Chalo Correia, Julinho da Concertina (both in Recyclart last 2 years) and next week in Recyclart with band Conjunto Contratempo > Holidays: Conjunto Contratempo / Celeste Maripose +Extras ! !. Expect wild funana, funky coladeira, shaking semba, rebita and much much more!

LiloCox (Principe Discos label, PT)
Once more we invite one of the young producer talents of the Lisboa label Principe Discos. LiloCox has been part of the Principe family since the early beginnings, supported by the scene’s godfathers Nervoso, Marfox and Nigga Fox. Together with Firmeza and Maboku, LiloCox is part of the Os P.D.D.G crew (Piqueno DJ’s Do Guetto / Little DJ’s from the ghetto), formed out of admiration for their elders and their sound. A sound that was followed through by these young kids from the rough Quinta do Mocho neighbourhood, not far from Lisbon airport’s main runway. Expect batida’s, kuduro, deep sexy house, traditional African melodies (evocative Funaná accordions), epic horns calling to a love battle on the dancefloor.

Rebel Up Gato Seb (Bxl)
The only non-Portuguese on the bill as local Bxl support. Part of the Brussels global crew Rebel Up!, which needs no introduction for those who know their underground global nights. Expect some hot warming up in Luso African spheres, from vintage sounds to contemporary LX beats.
