festival-cinema-mediterraneenThis Friday, Rebel Up! is hosting the afterparty for Festival Cinema Méditeranéen @ Botanique.

We invited some special guests for a true Mediterranean flavour.

Rebel Up! SebCat will be accompanied by Israelian dj/producer Gal Kadan, who is specialised in music from the Levant (Libanon, Israel, Palestine, Syria & Jordan) and also by Spanish Brussels DJ’s El Gato Callejero and I Am Sardina, who will spin Iberian sounds from rumba Catalana to flamenco & mestizo + live percussion.

Expect a wild mix with dance music from the Mediterranean and the Levant > Latino Euro-Arab-Andalus connection!

This Friday evening a special evening in underground venue Le Lac (Molenbeek, not to confuse with Les Ateliers Claus)

Phoenician Drive (Bxl)
At the crossroads of Mediterranean folk music and psychedelic rock, Phoenician Drive was formed in summer 2015 by percussionist Diego Moscoso grouping 6 musicians from very different backgrounds (flamenco, Balkan, psychedelic rock’n’roll, jazz, post -punk / new wave) for blending traditional designs with fuzz guitars and oriental rhythms. In the footsteps of Erkin Koray and Orient Express and under the influence of ‘kraut-rock German (Neu !, CAN, Faust etc.) and soundtracks 60’s music, Phoenician Drive Search hypnotic trance by relying on oriental grooves. Two demos were recorded in December 2015 and quickly attracted interest in Brussels (Ateliers Claus WIELS, Recyclart, Atelier 210) and elsewhere (Rockerill, Area B in Paris). An EP is being mixed into the hands of Débruit (label ICI).

The concert will start at 20h sharp by a prologue without electricity, enlightened by 400 artisanal candles.

Juanito Makandé > 19h45
One of the hottest Spanish singers and most important flamenco underground performer. An excellent singer, guitarist and cajon player that finds his inspiration in youth, life, love and flamenco, playing Andalusian funk that manages to convey his rebellion in each song. His hit song “Niña voladora” has reached 1 million YouTube hits in few months.

El Canijo de Jerez > 20h30
A charismatic, cheerful, easygoing and multifaceted artist, El Canijo is one of the leaders of the Spanish music in what refers to the fusion of flamenco and rock. Former member of the famous band “Los Delinqüentes”, after 12 years he made a step forward and released his own album (La Lengua Chivata 2014) on which he plays his Andalusian rock with touch of pop, reggae, tanguillos, ballads. A real street storyteller “garrapatero” with hot blood in his veins.

Followed by the afterparty in 2 rooms with DJs & more bands!!!

The beatmaking DJ of the famous Spanish nu-flamenco hiphop mestizo band Ojos de Brujo, has produced many of their albums and remixes, toured the world allover. Nowadays he also works on musical projects like Lenacay and Electrorumbaiao and is quite busy spinning ethnic tunes from all over the world with loops and electronics. is the dj alter ego of Marco Bustamante born in Beni, Bolivia, descendant from the Quechua culture and plays all the native Bolivian folk music instruments like quena, charango, pinkillos, tarkas, zampoñas, etc. In 2010 he started his own concept about Colombian cumbia combined with electro, drums and bass, funk, Bolivian folk, global bass and rock.
