Fri 02.10 new release out on Rebel Up; Kaito Winse – Kaladounia. Burkinabé griot artist solo album with modern traditions and deep spiritual ancestral sounds.

Kaito Winse comes from a Burkina Faso griot music family. From an early age he was formed in the traditions of his family in the village of Lankoué, Sourou region in the north of Burkina Faso.

As a modern jeli or griot, Kaito is the message bearer for the traditions of Burkina Faso. His solo debut album “Kaladounia” ( ‘Here the world’ / ‘ici le monde’), takes its impetus from the desire to perpetuate these traditions. The tama drum, the toutlé and the Fulani flutes and the traditional mouth bow accompany the songs addressed to Ancestors and newborns, and appeal to the force of planet earth. Traditional and spiritual techniques are renewed and unveiled on this album.

“Kaladounia” also takes its inspiration from the richness of human values and the need to communicate with nature. His mouth bow leads the voice and carries uplifting messages. His voice rises in in the local Burkinabé languages of Mooré, Samo and a little bit of French and pays homage to women, to their courage, to love and to life. The songs reveal the mastery of traditional musical techniques and rhythms, a spirituality rooted in ancestral values of men and nature, and a powerful and striking voice you won’t forget. This is the world, this is the place to do good things while you are here.

Released on Rebel Up Records, supported by NGHE Mediatheque, Enthusiast Music and Muziekpublique.

Tomorrow saturday 03.10 Kaito Winse will play an album release show at Muziekpublique theatre with Malick Pathé Sow. For info and tickets check here.

Wedn 1 Nov > Eclectric Roots night @ Au Quai, Bxl w/ Kel Assouf, Desir Fiorini, Esinam & Ibaaku, Angstromers and Rebel Up

This is the first evening curated by Brussels organisation/agency Enthusiast Music. A blend of incredible bands nourished by diverse visions of the world. Authenticity, complexity, groove, love. Fighting through music and culture against any kind of border.
PART ONE, AN EXTREME DIALOG

DESIR FIORINI (HA/IT)
What if Viennese composer Franz Schubert would have travelled to Haiti and met the spirits of vodou in Carrefour la Mort ? What if we would travel back to an imaginary mixed XIXth Century ?
With their hyper-classical formula of a piano and a voice, Belgian piano player Fabian Fiorini and Haitian singer Renette Désir summon the spirit of German romantic composers together with vodou trance. They pay a twofold tribute to contemporary Haitian poetry and to the language of the Haitian of the street: Creole. At this concert Fiorini will perform on a Fender Rhodes. Exclusive!

KEL ASSOUF (NG/TN/Bxl)
Kel Assouf means both “nostalgia” and “son of eternity” in Tamashek, the language of the Sahara nomads. Kel Assouf currently work on a new album to be released in 2018 with an unconventional trio formula. Drummer Olivier Penu and keyboard player Sofyann Ben Youssef support singer and guitar player Anana Harouna. They add a layer of freedom and contrasts to the heavy rock sound typical of their last album Tikounen. Spirit of Woodstock in the desert ?

PART TWO, A JOURNEY INTO ECLECTRIC ROOTS

ESINAM – IBAAKU (GH/SN)– RELEASE!
Multi-instrumentalist Esinam recalls the spirit of her Ghanaian roots in a ballet of instruments slightly sustained by almost invisible loop machines. Born in Brussels, she finds inspiration in her journeys all over the world and encounters with different cultures. In her solo set, she uses electronic machines and turns into a « one-woman band ». She composes, plays and performs her own contemporary music with flute, percussions, vocals as well as traditional and modern instruments. She invites Ibaaku, the Senegalese free-spirit and eccentric code-breaker at the vanguard of African avant-garde. Ibaaku assimilates multiple genres for digital deconstruction and reconstitution as soundtracks for wildly inventive visual narratives full of buzzing cosmic mysticism. first live performance of Esinam’s new single, produced by Ibaaku! And more!

THE ANGSTROMERS (Bxl)
The first release of Chouk Bwa & the Ångstromers combines a new dub sensitivity with a Haitian rhythm science. It is a new collaboration between the traditional Haitian vodou band, Chouk Bwa, and the abstract sound engineering of the Ångstromers. The result is a very distinctive blend: a kind of future-leaning Vodou dub.
The Ångstromers will perform some live mix of recordings captured in Haiti in April 2017 with a specific approach they call “Future Chouk”.  their 7inch “Electric Mambo” will be available!
