busy times at Rebel Up!, as one of our crew members will be representing Rebel Up! at the Womex world music expo in Cardiff and playing some sets in Bristol. But thankfully Rebel Up! Leblanc is there to cover and take over Rebel Up! duties.
This wednesday evening 23rd it’s time for another KK World evening at the KultuurKaffee. Afro-Canadian/Haïtian singer Spaïcy will come and give her soul jazz and african creole spheres. Free in, doors open from 20:00. Check all the info here.

Next up this thursday is the Kick Off The Campus / Stoemp night at the KultuurKaffee at VUB university campus. It’s a party night to kick off the academic year and a fine night for students to get wild and on global sounds. and oh, it’s FREE IN, also for non-students!

head act of the evening is Merdan Taplak & his Balkan Beat Brassband, who will swingaling between euphoric balkan beats, New York hiphop and electrofunk. Merdan is a born and raised Antwerpian with Turkish roots and is known for his dj sessions and producer skills. With his new band he takes his sound a big step further and to global urban spheres.

The band Sabena will be the perfect warmup > multicolor electropop with African grooves. Just like Merdan, this Afro-Belgian band from Leuven mixes electronics with an energetic and crazy live-act. Recently they remixed Taplaks single “All Out” (ft. Kraantje Pappie) and also worked together with Belgian global funk outfit Buscemi.

Tue 19 + Wed 20 March: 2 concerts of Manou Gallo & Women Band (ex-Zap Mama) @ Mercelis Theater, Elsene/Ixelles

The musical week already starts early.  Ivorian singer Manou Gallo & her Women Band will be playing 2 nights in a row in the Mercelis Theater, Elsene/Ixelles, hosted by KultuurKaffee as part of the KK World nights. Manou Gallo started her career with Belgian afro-funk band Zap Mama and since a few years she has embarked on her own project where she mixes various Western African styles together in a full modern female sound. On both nights we’re doing some Rebel Up! support before & after the show with some special african sounds of all things folky and slow swinging, Sebcat will spin on Tuesday and Leblanc on Wednesday evening.

IMPORTANT; Wednesday 20th is already sold out, but there are still tickets left for the concert on Tuesday 19th, so be quick if you like to be there!  Presale is just 10€.

this thursday evening another KK World edition in KultuurKaffee with a concert of Senegalese musician Samba Django.

Samba Django is an autodidactic guitarist with musical influences from African blues and Afrobeat. He comes from a musical family, his uncle Baba Maal even belongs to one of the most famous artists from Senegal. Since 2002 Samba lives in Brussels and lets himself be inspired by every day events and composes songs about themes such as racism and violence against women. He has worked together with Belgian artists for different projects, like the compilation ‘Art in Exile’ in 2006, ‘Le Monde est un village’, Didier Melon and the RTBF in 2009 and ‘Radio Transit’ with the Brussels group Jaune Toujours.

the Rebel Up! dj’s will start and close the evening with swinging African rythms & more.

Wed. 17 Oct; Rebel Up! @ KultuurKaffee Globe Aroma evening – FREE IN! –


Hello all,

this wednesday there’s a nice free Globe Aroma *Syria meets Africa* evening at KultuurKaffee.

Globe Aroma is a Brussels intercultural project where refugee musicians who live at Klein Kasteeltje/Petit Chateau get the chance to play their music for an audience. The band Syria Sound is composed of musicians of Syrian-Kurdish origin and will play Kurdish styles with soft rhythms and flamenco guitar. The band Afro Sound has musicians from Guinee, Congo and Togo and will play a variety of African styles like coupé décalé, slam and slam, Congolese rumba.

Before & after, Rebel Up! dj’s will play eastern & african tunes to colour the evening.

It’s free in, so just come for a globalicious fun time!
