This Friday 22 July, a seriously amazing party at Recyclart Holidays festival which Rebel Up! helps organising.
A Special lineup with artists from various southern countries > Ghana, Burkina Faso, Mexico, Dominican Republic & exotic Belgium.
Mabiisi (GH/ BF) Mabiisi means “brothers of the same mother” both Frafra of northern Ghana and in Mooré language of the Mossi people of central Burkina Faso. The association of rural and urban music from both cultures (Ghanaian kologo music and African hip hop) was the desire of the Burkinabe social critical rapper Art Melody, which has now been fulfilled. He went into the studio with famous Ghanaian kologospeler Stevo Atambire and the catchy result testifies to natural intuition and chemistry between these two experienced musicians. The Akwaaba Music label from Ghana released the record and arranged a first tour of this duo with steamy stop at Recyclart! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGDunpRknvc
DJ Tetris (MX) from Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca state, Tetris has been around for quite some time in the national Mexican ‘tribal Guarachero and electro tribal’ scene originated in the northern city of Monterrey and characterized by a mix of cumbia, pre-Columbian rhythms and electronic beats and melodies of flute, accordion, guitar and later, synthesizers. With his distinct style, which exercised a mix of tribal Guarachero and Mexican fanfare, mariachiand nortena, Tetris found shelter at the N.A.A.F.I collective and label (alongside Lao, SieteCatorce, Mexican Jihad, Fausto Bahia …) from the capital DF, famous for their special events and situations that celebrate street and club culture. Tetris’ eclectic and ultra–danceable first album ‘Costeno’ came out on N.A.A.F.I in 2014. http://naafi.mx/ https://soundcloud.com/naafi/sets/dj-tetris-costeno
Munchi & Godwonder (DO/NL)
From Mexico we fly through the US, over the Dominican Republic to Rotterdam and Amsterdam for two party creators and producers of big format: Munchi and Godwonder. Munchi harvested much success a few years ago with genre-defining productions and DJ sets in its own typical style, stairs, moombahton, reggaeton, cumbia and baile funk fusions to solid dancefloor bombs. At its peak, which brought him to Diplo and Azalea Banks whose money he turned down, as he retired disillusioned from “the music business” to continue working in silence to his mission: continue to make music and help other young people with musical talent from the Dutch-Caribbean diaspora to develop their musical talents. He founded his own label Selegna records and now releases steady new work of himself and of others, such as Godwonder, who for the occasion joined the ranks for the presentation of a Dominican-Dutch sound that mixes gabba and bubbling with tarraxo, reggaeton and dembow. Munchi will undoubtedly surprise you with a whole new set of dirty latino trap, hypnotic merengue, sensual bachata and heavy moombahton. https://soundcloud.com/selegnasim https://selegnarecords.bandcamp.com/

The Brussels Rebel Up! DJs Sebcat & Leblanc will play outside on the square and inside to introduce the evening with folkpop and global bass party bashers from various rural and urban corners of Latin America andAfrica. Ya tu sabe!

Black cats and all… and a very good underground party @ Recyclart too!
*Arabstazy*
Far from the current Ayatollah Oriental fashion, which flood us with Orientalist and post-colonial clichés, Arabstazy is the action that created its own movement. The collective was founded in 2013 by a handful of artists spread across Tunis, Paris and Berlin, they organize their independence by starting to organise their own parties and edit their tracks on their home label Shouka (*thorn* in Arabic). They establish unthinkable links between different pieces of the puzzle of the North African identity, moving smoothly to esoteric Sufi Stambeli possessions … Thus, in the hands of this young Franco-Tunisian collective the united spirit of North African trance is fully expressed. At their parties, eclectic artists such as SKNDR, Tropikal Camel, Wetrobots N3rdistan were all part of the amazing Project Chaos made in Tunis. True to their taste for dark superstitions, Friday the 13th they will tread the soil of BXL for the first time. They are missioned by their guru Mettani 滅, producer Deena Abdelwahed, female VJ Waf and shaman Tropikal Camel, who just released his 11th album on Shouka in K7 format.
A night for musical visionaries who want to explore Arabic electronic sounds, beyond Acid Arab.
Mettani滅 the guruof the Arabstazy collective. His liveperformancesare inspired byNorth Africanhealing rituals, andmake the link betweenmysticaland animistpossessiontrance. His soundis dark andorganic, mixing oddpolyrhythms with vibrantmelodies.Heinvites you toexplore theflip sideof your soul.Coming from thenoiserock scene, he uses hisvoice as raw material with which he sculpts his sound aided by various electronic andanalogueinstruments.
DeenaAbdelwahed Works hard toinject adose of innovationand experimentationinto electronic musicin Tunisia.Part of theTunisianalternative scene, she combinesurban rhythmsto her personal taste and brings highly energeticavant-garde musicthat is regarded asthe futureof Tunisianelectronic music. In 2014, shewas discoveredby thecollectiveArabstazy and ever since she has becomethe prophetess.
Tropikal Camel
Born in Jerusalem and where he grew up, Roi Assayag has lived in Berlin since 2013. His new project is the musical exploration of his own Arab roots. From Kurdistan to Iraq, passing through Morocco, he takes us on the journey of conscience, through the limbo of his fragmented identity. Performer and MC extraordinary, his live sets are an experience that will leave you deeply transformed.
Wafa Benromdhan aka VJ WAF
Uses videos and photos to embody her thoughts, emotions and to translate questions. Driven by a desire to treat the idleness of sensible beings to create chronic heterotopias at her disposal, she gradually opens a creative future that puts the scenography at the center of her research. The visual soul of Arabstazy since its creation, she is also part of other projects such as Wafolyv and Planningtorock.
Rebel Up! DJ’s resident DJ’s of the Nightshop parties. Tonite they will explore the past & future of the Northern African & Arab world in full sound, warming up & closing down.
The city of Brussels has recently decided to build four new underground car parks in the city center (Nouveau Marché aux Grains, Yser, place Rouppe and place du Jeu de Balle), linked by a „mini-ring“. This project is not based on any study and does not respond to any needs: in the numerous car parks in the city center, 6000 to 7500 parking spaces are not occupied. Such a projet, if realised, will disfigure several squares and places in Brussels, create additional traffic in neighbourhoods already congested and will cause years of suffering for the population of Brussels due to construction work.
We are merchants, shopkeepers, residents of the Marolles and all of Brussels, lovers of this neighbourhood and consumersatits fleamarket. We opposethe construction of this unnecessary car park under the place du Jeu de Balle with all our forces. Its realisation would have horrendous consequences for the fleamarket, the local businesses, the residents and for the existing diversity of this neighbourhood. Instead ofanother big construction site, the place du Jeu de Balle and its historic underground deserve to be classified. Unparalleled in the world, the fleamarket, which takes place regularly since 1873, and the resulting activities in its surroundings, constitute an economic, social and cultural heritage to be saved by all means possible.
