Rajasthan Street Music LP – *Sublime Frequencies*

Sebcat is very proud to present his self recorded & selected Rajasthan Street Music double LP, out since March on US label Sublime Frequencies.  It has finally come out after some slow years selecting & readying the song, ever since Sebcat and VJ M undertook that trip to Rajasthan over 6 years ago. It has resulted in a truly special document of contemporary Rajasthani folk music in diverse styles with nice cover art work.
Read here what some websites say about it.

Brazilian NGO Tiaozinho

During the next 3 months, a sports project for children and adolescents in one of the Sao Paulo favela’s will be organised. The aim is to stimulate social skills, values like team spirit, playing together and fairplay so that the youths can make positive decisions in their future life, but the main goal simply is to just have fun and enjoy themselves. Sports that will feature are football, volleyball & circus techniques and some other activities. Also friendly tournaments will be organised for the children as an end goal to all their sports training and with an incentive for them to invite their family into their playing environment as part of the social process. For this project, they need to raise money to buy sports equipment (balls, nets, clothing etc) and to cover other costs.

Sat. 20 Apr; Rebel Up! Soundclash Sufi/Electro Chaabi night w/ Ali Kawa Brothers & Qawwali Party (IN) + Cairo Liberation Front

rebelup_2013 04 20 web

After last week’s amazing night with Konono No1, a fresh Soundclash night coming up @ OCCII again! It will be a special eastern/arabic theme night with mystical Sufi/Qawwali music from India, revolution electro Shabi sounds, dabke from the middle east and much much more!!!!

Ali Kawa Brothers & Qawwali Party (IN)
trancedental Sufi & Qawwali music by muscians from Rajasthan, near to the border with Pakistan. Their special sound is filled with mystical spheres and islamic healing power that takes your mind and body to a distant place. Expect some deep resonating vocals, strong tabla rhythms and hypnotic vibes. They will play around midnight, so don’t come late!

Caïro Liberation Front
something is brewing in the rougher neighbourhoods of Caïro; young producers are making new electronic music called electro shabi (or sha3i), a rough sound that combines dancehall influences with Egyptian techno folk with a heavy political undercurrent. CLF has collected the best dance tunes of all these new producers, so this calls for a revolution party, YALLA!

We are also joined by our buddy Process Rebel (US) who will play his dancehall selections with an eastern-arabic vibe.

As always, the Rebel Up! dj’s will fill the gaps with their own blend of global sounds, in this case only pure asian n arabic sounds from vintage and modern times.
