The infamous party Tropikal Masala, which has been shaking Paris underground nightlife a few years back, bringing together the then emerging Cumbia / Tropical scene with relatively unknown musical genres from the “Orient”, punjabi Bhangra, middle-eastern Dabke or north-african Chaabi and Amazigh sounds…

Hailing from the early venezuelian rave scene, dj and tattoo artist ANACAONA brings you the fire from the Carribean with her top-notch vinyl selection. Expect rare gems from the Afro-cuban traditions, Guaguanco, Boogaloo, Son, Guaracha, as well as the most obscure psychedelia from latinamerican 60’s, 70’s & 80’s. Deep-rooted Orishas invocations meet bizarre, early electronic music experiments and some new-wave and acid bursts. Resident of the Fania Brava party in Berlin, this discrete & experimented music lover and selecta has made quite an impression at this year’s Fusion Festival, with two amazing sets at some of the festival’s legendary stages.

Great news, this weekend Rebel Up is hosting the new KiosQ dj stage at Esperanzah Festival on friday & saturday. We invited Brussels crews Global Hybrid Records and Giraffes & Penguins to join us, for a real special sounds from the global underground vibe.

Also lots of great artists playing at the festival > Ibeyi, Delgres, Babylon Trio, Fanna-Fi-Allah, Saodaj, Pongo, Les Ogres de Barback, Le Motel and so much more. On sunday our friends of Radio Bistrot will take over the KiosQ stage from us.

This saturday, Giraffes & Penguins and HAPE collective are joining forces for a night of underground african, caribbean and hip-shaking dancehall vibes with legendary DJ/producer Poirier (CA), Rebel Up, Le Grand Mechant Loop, Tropical DJipsies and Doctor Pepper (JM/BE)!

with special guest Poirier (Montreal, Canada)
Specializing in warm electronic music, Poirier is a prolific, creative and eclectic Canadian producer/musician/DJ. Constant in his albums and performances is a desire to build bridges between different languages, communities, and cultures. Active in Montreal, his successful monthly dance party Qualité de Luxe is dedicated to African and Caribbean music, attracting capacity crowds for over five years. Poirier is also the man behind Bounce le Gros and Karnival, parties with legendary status in Montreal nightlife history. He produced a total of 10 albums and many EPs with labels such as Wonderwheel Recordings and Ninja Tune. In 2017, he followed up with “Be Alright”, an EP inspired by Afro house music and featuring a collaboration with the Mozambican-Canadian singer Samito on the anthem “Sowia”. 2019 will see the release of several new songs inspired by Poirier’s travels abroad and his beloved city of Montreal.

Melbourne/Naarm based producer who makes unique club music. Drawing on his Lebanese background, he makes tough, functional, and percussive tracks. His unique style references the rhythms, scales and timbres of Lebanese pop and traditional Lebanese wedding music, blending them with contemporary RnB, Club and other dance styles. DJ Plead released his debut EP ‘Get in Circle’ through air max 97’s DECISIONS label in March 2018 and has since toured Europe and China. DJ Plead is also half of drum-workout duo Poison, a member of high-energy trio BV, and founder of the SUMAC label.

KEL ASSOUF – Tamashek rock, BXL
Out of nostalgia and the loneliness of the desert, Brussels based band Kel Assouf builds music around the Touareg Tamashek culture and the fight against discrimination. Key figure Aboubacar ‘Anana’ Harouna, a fledged tamasheq from Niger, speaks with his guitar, and uses it as a means to claim his rights without bloodshed. With one foot in the desert and the other in the urban jungle, Anana writes about events from the Sahara to here, about life in exile and about freedom, peace and respect for all peoples in the world. After their first album ‘Tin Hinane’ (in 2010) and second album ‘Tikounen’ (2016), Kel Assouf evolved into a new sound on their new album ‘Black Tenere’, released earlier this month on Glitterbeat Records. Tunisian producer Sofyann Ben Youssef immersed the band in a surprisingly contemporary production and sound, which expresses a cry of impotence against violence, injustice and pollution in the world. The result? Desert rock with stirring drums, mesmerizing guitar riffs, psychedelic melodies and Tamasheg vocals. African rhythms played by rock musicians, bring Kel Assouf to the dance floor, somewhere between Brussels and Niamey.

Born in Dakar, originally from Casamance, Ibaaku is a prolific artist; not only a producer but also a multi-instrumentalist, author, composer & radio host. Hip hop, beat, afro-futurism & experimental electronic music are blended with Senegalese references & remixed local sounds to represent the major influences of his first opus album ‘Alien Cartoon’.
