4 day tour in Germany: with 3 gigs in Berlin & Hamburg with Praed, Spiritzcualic Enhancement Center, Alexa D!Saster and more guests!
PRAED Founded by Raed Yassin and Paed Conca in 2006, “Praed” is a band whose musical oeuvre can be described as a mixture of Arabic popular music, free jazz, and electronics. In the same year, the band made its first public appearance in Al Maslakh festival in Switzerland, immediately followed by a concert at the Irtijal festival in Beirut. Since then, the band has frequented numerous international music festivals and toured intensively world-wide, spanning Japan, Europe and Canada. Through these endeavors, the band has created a large global network with other renowned musicians as musical collaborators.
The duo’s body of work mainly explores the terrain of Arabic popular music (“Shaabi”) and its interconnectedness with other psychedelic and hypnotic musical genres in the world, such as free jazz, space jazz, and psychedelic rock among others. Since its inception, Praed has shown a very keen interest in this music as a medium that reflects Egyptian society’s complicated fabric. Through the research it conducted, the band began to discover a strong cultural connection between “Shaabi” sounds and the “Mouled” music is played in religious trance ceremonies. The hypnotizing psychedelic effect that was embedded in this genre also triggered thoughts around its similarity to other popular music in the world that employ forms of sonic delirium, such as free jazz and psychedelic rock.
Spiritczualic Enhancement Center Like an infinite circle whose center is everywhere and circumference is nowhere, the Spiritczualic Enhancement Center is an outer-national musical caravan, meandering in a world of free-beat. Their eclectic ingredients create an alchemical soup ranging from jazz-infused atavistic-futurism to frequency meditation. Featuring original artworks exploring the realms of syncretism, environments are brought to life via live-drawing projections and spaces transformed into temples of spontaneity. Creating soundscapes that glimpse into synchronistic magic, the bizarre participants of this ensemble remain agnostic: are they magicians, or merely tricksters? The band was founded on Christmas 2017, by secretly transforming the backroom of an abandoned Ottoman building adjacent to the Old City of Jerusalem into a temporary musical space.
Within the two weeks of its existence, the Center morphed into an ever-evolving and collaborative idea. Like a caravan which collects participants as it travels, a growing group of ‘outernational’ musicians are being magnetized. Carrying the Spiritczualic Enhancement Center within themselves, they gather on occasion for recording and performing. Free beat.

This saturday, Cinema Colombiano teams up with Pantropical in WORM Rotterdam, for a party finale that continues into the small hours. Los Guaqueros, aka renowned DJ’s Mario ‘Gala’ Galeano (Los Pirañas, Frente Cumbiero, Ondatrópica) and Barba Roja, will open their treasure chest of rare vinyl for a unique musical trip through Colombia.
For more than a decade, Mario ‘Gala’ Galeano has been an innovator in the prolific music scene of Bogotá and Colombia at large. The dizzying range of projects he is active in includes Frente Cumbiero’s electronically-augmented vinyl archaeology, Ondatrópica’s Caribbean-Afrocolombian mash-up, and Los Pirañas’ Cumbia-surfpunk hybrid. Together with visual artist and fellow DJ/digger Mateo Rivano, Mario takes on the shape of Los Guaqueros (literally “The Looters”) – tomb raiders who dig their way through decrepit record vaults to find the gems of Colombia’s musical roots, aiming to reintroduce its unique rhythms and styles to audiences. This friday, concert of trio Sakili, acoutstic sega & tambour music from the Indian ocean!
Sakili’s music reflects the history of Rodrigues Island, combining European and African influences: waltz, polka, mazurka, schottische, they all blend harmoniously to the rhythms of sega drumming, traditional from the times of African slaves. Moreover, as globalization also influences the vast expanses of the Indian Ocean, there are of course, in some of the songs, elements of overlap with the western world or more recent preoccupations.
The Creole sega is sensual music and dance, with African influences, which was, in origin, a cultural form of resistance by slaves against the colonial rulers, but the culture turned little by little into a ritual that has in the end become rooted in tradition and lastingly incorporated in the way of life. The style of performance, sega drumming, is a vibrant mixture of music, consisting mainly of percussion, sin or status.
The Trio Sakili comprises three major ambassadors of Rodrigues sega: Vallen Pierre Louis is a banjoist well known and highly appreciated on the island. Francis Prosper belongs to one of the most important musical clans of the island and is without any doubt the best traditional percussionist and provides, with his warm timbre, the powerful voice of Sakili. Third in the line-up, Ricardo Legentile plays the accordion, the leading local melodic instrument, a heritage of the multiple influences on the island. The repertoire and the subtleties of his playing technique have been handed down from father to son for several generations of the family, while his mother, Yolande Legentile, belongs to the famous singers, the Mareshals of Sega in Rodrigues.
Afterparty in foyer by Rebel UpSebCat & Drache Musicale. Also stand by NGHE Mediatheque with special cassettes between maloya and sega.
