#14 already, and with special guests that will spread the heat of the tropical jungle over Brussels > Hugo Mendez & Funky Bompa!
Born in London and based in Paris, Hugo Mendez is the co-founder of the renowned Sofrito label. Responsible for a huge amount of re-issues, edits and compilations of music from Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean. Together with Frankie Francis he also wrote a full page in London’s nightlife history with the infamous Sofrito: Tropical Discotheque warehouse parties and released the famed Tropical Discotheque compilation on Strut Records. Bringing together a deep musical knowledge and extensive travels with a sharp ear for dancefloor-rocking tunes, his DJ sets draw on everything from vintage bassline Soukous to dubplate edits of Caribbean Cadence and boogie, passing by DIY electro and forward looking sounds to create a unique balance of hypnotic and percussive rhythms that he regularly showcases at clubs and festivals around the world. With Nouvelle Ambiance, his latest label project on the African Paris diaspora scene of the 1980’s, he continues the work of Sofrito, celebrating cross-cultural collaborations via reissue projects and contemporary productions with a geographically diverse group of musicians. He also is the caretaker for renowned label Buda Musique where has helped releasing a string of amazing album last year. https://soundcloud.com/strut/sofrito-mini-mix https://soundcloud.com/sofrito https://soundcloud.com/nouvelleambiance

Expect a wide range of grooves, from nuclear bassline cumbia to nigerian boogie, indian disco and everything in-between! Funky Bompa experiments his finds in original version or personal edits, vinyl only. Being an enthusiast record lover for more than 20 years, he promotes the format and artists (old and new) through his imprints Bompa Discos (personal edits) and Limité Records (Témé Tan, BRNS). As the co-founder of the Atelier 210 venue, Funky Bompa booked hundreds of bands and parties as well as launching the Blackout Sessions in 2012, which he continues to curate to this day. https://www.youtube.com/funkybompa https://www.mixcloud.com/funkybompa
