A powerful trumpet player with roots in Togo, and proud of them too: he’s been known to wear a Mobutu hat and has coined in jest the slogan ‘Make Africa Great Again’. His highly infectious Afrobeat, however, is an extremely faithful interpretation, influenced by such greats as Fela Kuti and Tony Allen, Miriam Makeba, Hugh Masekela of course, Salif Keita, and Mory Kanté. He’s finally completed his first ‘full’ album which he will present. We are expecting a lot of people both in front of the stage and on it. Video and new one!
A thrilling blend of folktronica and ‘nu cumbia’. The Argentinean Mariana, aka Là Yegros, offers delightful, highly danceable sounds built upon cumbia, chamamé and other folk influences with an injection of electronica. Hence the term ‘folktronica’. She has recently completed work on her new CD, ‘Suelta’ (Salvation). And you’re sure to know her from her summer hit & video ‘Viene De Mi‘.

is the alter ego of 24-year-old producer and instrument collector Bart Van Obbergen. His Bolivian roots have inspired his passion for exotic sounds, especially traditional South American percussive music. He blends his own field recordings and other music with digital ingredients into a rhythmic and energetic soundtrack.
released the LP ‘Drup’ in collaboration with Tunisian label Shouka: a tribute to his Tunisian heritage, with percussion and vocals from all over the African continent, and all that in a digital mix, an ‘amalgam of then and now.’ Video here.

Join us for a Rebel Up Records saturday at APERODROOM SEE U from 2pm. Relaxing time around our guinguette & food trucks. Album release party of “Awakening Spirits” by Tropikal Camel.
Tropikal Camel (IS / Berlin Arabstazy)
Special guest is Tropikal Camel who will live present his new album “Awakening Spirits”, released just before summer on Brussels label Rebel Up Records. The new urban sound of Middle Eastern/North African futurism, an original fusion between traditional Arabic music with cutting edge electronic sounds. It is a quest for a new identity, one which has been released by colonialist thinking. One that has respect to the past but with heads up to the future, urban but tribal, dramatic but minimal, full of contradictions but keeping the balance. Electronic music that has a meaning and a story.
Interview + mixtape on Tsugi blog (in French) > http://tiny.cc/qq72bz
“Awakening Spirits” will be on sale during the event as normal & colour vinyl edition (15/20€), cassette (8€) and digital download codes (5€), CHOICE!

Rafael Aragon (Tropikal Masala / Global Hybrid Records, Brussels)
Tropikal Masala’s co-founder and resident, member of the Global Hybrid collective, nomadic dj, skilled producer, superb remixer and avid globe-trotter Rafael Aragon provides a wide range of global electronic sounds, an avalanche of sweaty psychotropical waves, voodoo percussions and trippy oriental house stompers.

NEW ETHNO-GROOVE PARTY IN TOWN 🎵 🌶 🎵
Our 4th edition of Giraffes & Penguins already, we’re super happy to announce a live set by Tunisian percussionist, DJ and producer Nuri, coming from Copenhagen to share his ethnic & colorful (there will be visuals too) musical universe with us in Brussels!
〰🔅〰 Nuri 〰🔅〰
Nuri is an established name on the Tunisian underground scene, where, as drummer, he has been a part of numerous alternative music projects. Also DJ, he is an impeccable selector and a skilled navigator in the universe of beats and sounds, wrapping traditional and world rhythms in a club house clothing.
Nuri has released his first album “Drup” on Shouka in August 2017.
〰🔅〰 Rebel Up SebCat 〰🔅〰
In the Brussels global scene, Rebel Up has become a household name through their party nights of contemporary *world* music and electronic ethnic sounds in Recyclart, Bonnefooi, BSB, La Tentation, Les Ateliers Claus and many other places. SebCat is a fulltime musical nexus: he hosts the Nightshop radio show on Radio Campus Bxl, curator of countless Bxl parties & nights and he runs a DIY vinyl distro with the better global sounds. Soon he will kickstart the Rebel Up label (with releases from Portugal, Angola, Cabo Verde, Ghana, Iraq, Mexico and Peru coming up!). Expect a wild set of the freshest African, Latino & global sounds.
〰🔅〰 Le Grand Méchant Loop 〰🔅〰
“I prefer to make little pigs dance rather than eat them!”
Philippe Nullens aka Le Grand Méchant Loop is world beats DJ and percussionist. He will take us on a surprising journey, spiced up with live percussions, where the genuine sounds of kologo, zurna, ferrinho and gwoka blend to create the kind of groove that can only be explained on a dancefloor!
