In the aftermath of the Black Lives Matter protests in June allover the globe, followed by a summer with or without holidays, it’s important to keep the flame burning and the discussion going. The road is still long, but united we stand, moving forward together.

The aim of this compilation is to raise funds for various (inter)national NGO’s, anti-rasicm advocacy groups and organisations of black initiative, with all proceedings to be donated to these causes. (Look in press info for full list of carefully selected organiations)

The artists donated their music as a collaboration between Rebel Up Records, the artists and the international labels Nyege Tapes, Syrphe, Bongo Joe Records, Sdban Records, Galletas Calientes, Blanc Manioc, Indigenous Underground, Strut, Earconditioning and 1000Hz Records. On this compilation we brought together mostly electronic African or Afro descendant artists from the worldwide diaspora and artists based in their homelands, from motherland Africa to Latin America to the Caribbean and back to Europe. It’s a vibrant combination of contemporary sounds that showcases the current talent of the artists and producers, combined with awareness for black lives & art and serving as a fundraiser. You can find a list of the supported organisations on the last page. Also info on each of the artists and their Bandcamp pages are included in the notes.

As this compilation is an ongoing process, it’s possible that the tracklist can still grow with a few extra songs in the next weeks. Please support & buy this compilation, let the internal fire burn on.

The RS Produçoes (‘Rinchoa Stress’) collective from the Rinchoa northern Lisboa suburb was launched in 2016 by a then 17-year-old Narciso, and is made up of DJ/producer Nuno Beats, DJs Nulo and Lima, producer Farucox and MC Pimenta. Their album ‘Bagdad Style’ on Lisboa label Principe Discos last year features 8 original compositions by DJ Narciso and Nuno Beats and moves from “muscular batida” to “metallic cargaa” via “semi-tarraxos” and ravey house and kuduro jams. The crew plays regular shows at Príncipe’s monthly Noite Príncipe parties in Lisbon and will be playing in Brussels for the 1st time. Quente, puxa!

PLLOW (Bloom Hill / Kiosk Radio)
PLLOW is a female Cameroonian/Belgian DJ & co-founder of the Brussels music agency Bloom Hill. With this eclectic DJ, you can expect a set between afro rhythms and bassy sounds. After 3 years Djing, she can mention highlights like performing at AFROPUNK in Paris, Dour Festival, The Lot Radio (Brooklyn NY) and being a resident DJ for Kiosk Radio. Based in Mexico City, Tayhana is a maverick DJ and producer from Argentina who has established herself in the global club scene with her whirlwind selection of Latin American and global beats. She has a fearless mixing style that comprises a variety of contemporary crossovers. In 2013, Tayhana co-founded Hiedrah Club de Baile; a party series that pushes the experimental edge of Buenos Aires’ underground. Tayhana also collaborated with the Salviatek label in Uruguay and NAAFI in Mexico.

Afterwards in Beursschouwburg, a special Gqom Oh! label night with South Africa’s newest ghetto house wave from Durban. This South African club music is a sultry mix of hip-hop, footwork and kwaito house with a heavy Xhosa identity.

First real Gqom night in Brussels!

Gqom Oh! is a new label set up by Italian dj and researcher Nan Kole to display the fresh sounds coming out of Durban, by talented and often very young producers from the townships. Griffit Vigo is one of the main figures of the scene, still young but veteran producer is already the inspiration and godfather for many.

this Friday our good female friends from Nantes-annex-Bruxelles are organising their first Tropical Boobs party @ le Metro Valdi -yes, they named it that in female self-sexist power stylee- a night filled with global bass sounds, juke, trap, dubstep, italo disco and whatnot @ Metro Valdi (15 Rue des Poissonniers) Bxl city centre near Beurs/Bourse.

Rebel Up! dj’s Sebcat & Leblanc will be spinning a heavy selection of global tunes. Leblanc will go deep into Africa with fast urban kuduro, kwaito house and some streetwise Mexican sonidero cumbia, while Sebcat will turn to Caribbean ways with the newest and roughest Karnival sounds from Haiti, Brazilian tecnomelody swing and some tecnofolk tunes from Syria & Egypt.

Joined by guest dj’s from Nantes DJ FI$H€RPRIC€ & $TRAPONTIN and Brussels immigrants RICO MEDEIROS (DRACHE MUSICAL/BXL) and VJ FLANDERS. Gonna be a hot night!

This Saturday 21st, a new global bass party is born in Antwerp; BABACA!

Hosted by the Tsigani guys, the night will be in the Magiq Spiegeltent at Noordkasteel, kicking off at 21:00 til the 6:00 morning light. The lineup consists of Belgian global bass dj’s, specialised in different parts of the world; Max Le Daron (Low Up recs), Kobe Louis Charles (Tsigani), Captain Steel (Tsigani/(Low Up recs), LeBlanc (Brussels Up!) and ofcourse your very own Rebel Up! Sebcat.
