2 NEW releases on Rebel Up Records; V/A – Mamari Remix compilation & Satanique Samba Trio – Mini Bad

New releases out this month of September!

Various Artists – Mamari Remixed
13 remixes between global electronic beats, afrohouse, bass and more….

The remix compilation ‘Mamari Remixed’ is the little electronic sibling of the album ‘Mamari’ by Muito Kaballa Power Ensemble. 13 producers from Africa, Europe and Latin America give their own spin on the original songs by making them ready for the dancefloor. All producers combine 19 different nationalities and show their ability to make bass music that stays true to the organic sound. The remixes not only use the original instruments but also manage to convey the political messages from the Power Ensemble.

Jan Janzen (keys) and Niklas Mündemann (saxophone) of Muito Kaballa are also DJs and enthusiasts of the underground clubbing scene. With ‘Mamari Remixed’ the two musicians want to create bridges between the worlds of “live music” and “club music”. Remixed included are by Nuno Beats (RS Produçoes), Catu Diosis (Nyege Nyege), Lee Bass (Gato Preto), Lua Preta, ARN4L2, DJ Satelite & PolBack, DJ Flavya, DJ Makala, BYDLY, Quixosis, 115 Solaris, Ekiti Sound and Rafael Aragon.

The countries represented on this compilation are Portugal, Uganda, Poland, Angola, Cabo Verde, Germany, Ghana, Colombia, Brazil, US, Spain, Netherlands, Ecuador, Belgium, Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, UK, France, Uruguay and Algeria.

A limited edition vinyl pre-order as active as well, delivery is expected 15 december.

Satanique Samba Trio – Mini Bad
B sides from the Brazil’s experimental jazz underground.

From 2004 to 2020, Satanique Samba Trio has dropped 11! records into phonographic existence. Naturally, some compositions from the quintet’s (not really a trio indeed) catalogue didn’t make onto any album for one reason or another. ‘Mini Bad’ is a remedy for this situation, as it amasses 10 tracks that were almost part of albums like “Bad Trip Simulator #3” (2013), “Xenossamba” (2017) and “Forrivel” (2020). You can call it B-sides from B-razil, if you dare.

There is also a very limited edition 10″ vinyl, only available in Brazil. Check the bandcamp for more info.

New release out > African Electronic Diaspora: Black Lives Matter fundraiser compilation, 28 tracks!

V/A – African Electronic Diaspora: Black Lives Matter

release date: Friday 04.09 Bandcamp Friday
on Bandcamp only > www.rebeluprecords.bandcamp.com

[bandcamp width=100% height=120 album=1731422262 size=large bgcol=ffffff linkcol=0687f5 tracklist=false artwork=small]
In the aftermath of the Black Lives Matter protests in June allover the globe, followed by a summer with or without holidays, it’s important to keep the flame burning and the discussion going. The road is still long, but united we stand, moving forward together.

The aim of this compilation is to raise funds for various (inter)national NGO’s, anti-rasicm advocacy groups and organisations of black initiative, with all proceedings to be donated to these causes. (Look in press info for full list of carefully selected organiations)

The artists donated their music as a collaboration between Rebel Up Records, the artists and the international labels Nyege Tapes, Syrphe, Bongo Joe Records, Sdban Records, Galletas Calientes, Blanc Manioc, Indigenous Underground, Strut, Earconditioning and 1000Hz Records. On this compilation we brought together mostly electronic African or Afro descendant artists from the worldwide diaspora and artists based in their homelands, from motherland Africa to Latin America to the Caribbean and back to Europe. It’s a vibrant combination of contemporary sounds that showcases the current talent of the artists and producers, combined with awareness for black lives & art and serving as a fundraiser. You can find a list of the supported organisations on the last page. Also info on each of the artists and their Bandcamp pages are included in the notes.

As this compilation is an ongoing process, it’s possible that the tracklist can still grow with a few extra songs in the next weeks. Please support & buy this compilation, let the internal fire burn on.

Also check the amazing support by the blogs Pan African Music and Rhythm Passport with nice articles and words about the compilation!

Thu 31 Oct: Rebel Up Duckfood @ Pantropical w/ Combo Chimbita, Tayhana & more, WORM, Rotterdam

✹ TAYHANA
✹ DUCKFOOD
✹ BLONDEWEDNESDAY

location: WORM Rotterdam – Boomgaardsstraat 71
20:30 – 02:00 | presale: €8
FB event / website

Pantropical proudly presents Combo Chimbita‘s exclusive NL show during their first European tour. The New York-based Colombian band transforms Afro-Latin rhythms into melodic witchcraft, stripping away wordly façades into something bare and beautiful, like time travel through the lush tropics of yore. This is the stuff of goosebumps that you can also dance to. We’re also delighted to have DJ / producer Tayhana, who established herself as one of the most powerful musical forces on the South and Central American dancefloors.

✹ COMBO CHIMBITA (CO/US) | Names You Can Trust, Anti Records)
Visionary quartet Combo Chimbita combine folkloric mystique, otherworldly psychedelia and a dash of punk attitude. Their latest release ‘Ahomale’ captures all that is essential about them: through Carolina Oliveros’ mesmeric singing the powerhouse drumming, hypnotic synths and expressive guitar and bass playing, the band fuse the perennial rhythms of the Afro-Latin diaspora with a modern-day consciousness, while tracing the prophetic traditions of their ancestry. Oliveros: “Ahomale resurges from the visions that we’ve been having via our music and life, and the lyrics reflect a manifestation passed on through our ancestors and the gods”.

✹ TAYHANA (AR | NAAFI, Hiedrah Club de Baile)
Based in Mexico City, Tayhana is a maverick DJ and producer from Argentina who has established herself in the global club scene with her whirlwind selection of Latin American and global beats. She has a fearless mixing style that comprises a variety of contemporary crossovers. In 2013, Tayhana co-founded Hiedrah Club de Baile; a party series that pushes the experimental edge of Buenos Aires’ underground. Tayhana also collaborated with the Salviatek label in Uruguay and NAAFI in Mexico.

✹ DUCKFOOD (NL | pantropical, Rebel Up)
Duckfood’s awe-inspiring music collection absorbs anything from Renaissance, and African-diasporic styles to Moroccan trance. His DJ selections are extremely colourful and not preoccupied by categorization. Like always, with Duckfood the pieces of the puzzle will fall into place.

✹ BLONDEWEDNESDAY (PT / roffa)
Blondewednesday wanders around in Roffa’s club microcosm in support of events, artists and initiatives. She is the founder of the Voyager collective, studies sonology at the Royal Conservatory and, more importantly also has a penchant for pantropicalisms. She will be closing the night.

Fri 22 July > Rebel Up! @ Recyclart Holidays party w/ Mabiisi, DJ Tetris, Munchi & Godwonder

13432219_10153850951005345_225271404206347998_nAkwaaba! hello Brussels!

This Friday 22 July, a seriously amazing party at Recyclart Holidays festival which Rebel Up! helps organising.
A Special lineup with artists from various southern countries > Ghana, Burkina Faso, Mexico, Dominican Republic & exotic Belgium.

Mabiisi (GH/ BF)
Mabiisi means “brothers of the same mother” both Frafra of northern Ghana and in Mooré language of the Mossi people of central Burkina Faso. The association of rural and urban music from both cultures (Ghanaian kologo music and African hip hop) was the desire of the Burkinabe social critical rapper Art Melody, which has now been fulfilled. He went into the studio with famous Ghanaian kologospeler Stevo Atambire and the catchy result testifies to natural intuition and chemistry between these two experienced musicians. The Akwaaba Music label from Ghana released the record and arranged a first tour of this duo with steamy stop at Recyclart!

DJ Tetris (MX)
from Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca state, Tetris has been around for quite some time in the national Mexican ‘tribal Guarachero and electro tribal’ scene originated in the northern city of Monterrey and characterized by a mix of cumbia, pre-Columbian rhythms and electronic beats and melodies of flute, accordion, guitar and later, synthesizers. With his distinct style, which exercised a mix of tribal Guarachero and Mexican fanfare, mariachi and nortena, Tetris found shelter at the N.A.A.F.I collective and label (alongside Lao, Siete Catorce, Mexican Jihad, Fausto Bahia …) from the capital DF, famous for their special events and situations that celebrate street and club culture. Tetris’ eclectic and ultradanceable first album ‘Costeno’ came out on N.A.A.F.I in 2014.

Munchi & Godwonder (DO/NL)
From Mexico we fly through the US, over the Dominican Republic to Rotterdam and Amsterdam for two party creators and producers of big format: Munchi and Godwonder. Munchi harvested much success a few years ago with genre-defining productions and DJ sets in its own typical style, stairs, moombahton, reggaeton, cumbia and baile funk fusions to solid dancefloor bombs. At its peak, which brought him to Diplo and Azalea Banks whose money he turned down, as he retired disillusioned from “the music business” to continue working in silence to his mission: continue to make music and help other young people with musical talent from the Dutch-Caribbean diaspora to develop their musical talents. He founded his own label Selegna records and now releases steady new work of himself and of others, such as Godwonder, who for the occasion joined the ranks for the presentation of a Dominican-Dutch sound that mixes gabba and bubbling with tarraxo, reggaeton and dembow. Munchi will undoubtedly surprise you with a whole new set of dirty latino trap, hypnotic merengue, sensual bachata and heavy moombahton.
