This saturday, Cinema Colombiano teams up with Pantropical in WORM Rotterdam, for a party finale that continues into the small hours. Los Guaqueros, aka renowned DJ’s Mario ‘Gala’ Galeano (Los Pirañas, Frente Cumbiero, Ondatrópica) and Barba Roja, will open their treasure chest of rare vinyl for a unique musical trip through Colombia.
For more than a decade, Mario ‘Gala’ Galeano has been an innovator in the prolific music scene of Bogotá and Colombia at large. The dizzying range of projects he is active in includes Frente Cumbiero’s electronically-augmented vinyl archaeology, Ondatrópica’s Caribbean-Afrocolombian mash-up, and Los Pirañas’ Cumbia-surfpunk hybrid. Together with visual artist and fellow DJ/digger Mateo Rivano, Mario takes on the shape of Los Guaqueros (literally “The Looters”) – tomb raiders who dig their way through decrepit record vaults to find the gems of Colombia’s musical roots, aiming to reintroduce its unique rhythms and styles to audiences.
