Saturday 13th of feb; Rebel Up! Soundclash @ OCCII, A’dam with DJ Zhao (DE/CN) and more!

Ahoy all you globalsound loving people out there!

This time we will have a special guest from the far east!
DJ Zhao is the Chinese ambassador of boom bringing heat from around the world, connecting ancestral rhythms with hyper-modern sound. Active since 2000, Zhao has organized critically acclaimed long running events in the US from Sound Art to Experimental Techno. After moving to Berlin, he started the Ngoma Soundsystem collective and organised series of Global Bass parties in Berlin. This has brought him to various festival and parties allover Europe and now to Amsterdam for the first time ever! Equal parts ethno-musicologist and booty shaker, Zhao brings unique perspective and vision to every occasion, and has played nights with artists such as Pan Sonic, Rhythm and Sound, Cooly G, Shackleton and others.

Check his sounds here and look for the awesome Ngoma mix!

Your usual interlocal nomadic Rebel Up! crew will also light up the dancefloor during the night with tasty world sounds & psyched out global visuals by our Dutch-Argentinian alliance of VJ M & Normal Con Alas. This night is one of the last nights for coordinating crew member SebCat who will move to Brussels and soon set up Rebel Up! there and beyond! We will be joined by the experimental witchdoctor DJ Cosmo Knex of the Hallo Gallo tribe in a spiritual African mood for some ritual lo-fi celebrations. Its gonna be some spinning night of continentalhopping delights. Come and shop for free sounds for your cultured body & soul!

Ofcourse we also care about Haïti, but we can best advise everybody to donate to your local or international Red Cross. We rather prefer to support smaller organisations that have long running projects. The charity cause tonight will again be the same organisation in Kenya, named Global Giving. It’s a project that aids a nursery school and rescue center for orphans and vulnerable children in the Kibera slums. The organization is all locally run — and supports about 100 children. Like so many orgs, they have received funding cuts from their major donor and are really in need of growing their funding base. We’ll go around with a collection box during the night and as always we donate the profits from the doormoney.
