Tomorrow saturday 6 June, Radio Rood is organising their weekly livestreaming event at Recyclart in Brussels, with an eclectic linup of live bands and DJ’s.
Trio schroothoop will play a short live set at 16h, not to be missed! Followed by a DJ set of Rebel Up SebCat with sounds of unity & disobedience. Our good friends of Stakattak & Stadskanker will play after, and ending with vintage rockabilly of Fifty Foot Combo and Radio Rood dj’s.
And sorry to disappoint you, but this event is NOT open to the public. Please join us online.
We hope you doing fine during this ‘deconfinement’ stage, slowly getting back to normal life. Artists worldwide are still in serious limbo, with no concerts, parties and festivals happening this summer up to september, meaning many of them will continue to have no income from their art for the next few months.
Today Bandcamp again waives their commission fee in support of artists and label, which they will do every 1st friday of the month during this crisis and the summer.
If you would like to support our label and artists, please see our catalogue. We have lowered prices on many digital and physical items, check it out!
New release coming up on Rebel Up Records this wednesday 27.05 the debut mini album Klein Gevaarlijk Afval by Brussels world jazz trio schroothoop.
mysterious world jazz with DIY instruments
Brussels-based trio schroothoop (Dutch for ‘junk yard’) is formed by Rik Staelens (wind & string instruments), Timo Vantyghem (bass & clarinet) and Margo Maex (percussion). Their tribal oriented debut mini-album titled ‘Klein Gevaarlijk Afval’ (Small Dangerous Waste) features homemade instruments built from lost and found objects like scrap wood, old metal or anything that would end up in a landfill. The band’s music is infused with sounds from around the world orchestrated by PVC flute melodies, jerry can beats and washtub bass lines.
Mysterious world jazz with Northern African chaabi, South American reggaeton, Eastern oriental melodies and Afro-Cuban rhythms, resulting in a danceable and hypnotic trip through the Brussels melting pot.
Post production and mixed by David ‘Dijf’ Sanders and mastered by Jürgen de Blonde (KOHN).
Artwork by Eva Lynen on screen-printed on cardboard covers in the studio of the Brussels collective Hashët. Limited to 15 handmade vinyl copies only. Sold out already, but end of June we expect a proper vinyl release of the album in bigger numbers. Available digital on our Bandcamp, as well as the official vinyl pre-order at discounted price for 1 week.

And we have another May Day special >
a new digital only release on our label by Satanique Samba Trio titled “Instant Karma”.
Satanique Samba Trio’s most recent release WAS SUPPOSED TO BE the first liquid album in history: taking advantage of the short-lived exposure provided by Instagram Stories, your favorite Brazilian experimental quintet (yes, quintet), known for its brief-but-complex-deconstructed-Brazilian-rhythm-pieces, presented the world with a 15-second lo-fi tune every day throughout the month of February 2019. It’s a true trip into the tropi-concrete world of SS3.
In accordance with Instagram Stories’ rules, each song was available online for exact 24 hours, only to disappear FOREVER, leaving a faint sketch of Brazil’s musical diversity on the ethereal surface of your memory. Ground breaking, right? Yeah, but only for a year or so, as illegally downloaded versions of the tunes started to pop up around the Russian web. Well, it was fun while it lasted.
The good news is now you can have Instant Karma in your HD as a chock-full digital package. Let it drip.
