Next few evenings & nights we have some great Rebel Up events in Bxl.

Thursday 16.02, expo opening / Jeudi baar at Brasserie Illegaal brewery, curated by Rebel Up, with live concerts by duo Bonzaiology (musicien de Phoenician Drive), duo Jean-Sebastien, and duo dj set/live by DJ Fresh Nunas & renowned trumpet player Aquiles Navarro (Panama/New York / International Anthem / River Down records) and SebCat.
Expo by Leonie Stolberg & Esteban Moulin.

Expect all sounds between jazz, rock, afro, latin and electronica, hybrid & eclectic.

On Friday 17.02, live concert by Acid Arab & guests @ Ancienne Belgique, presenting their new album Trois, just released on Crammed Discs.

new Rebel Up Nightshop online #102, january 2023

New Nightshop show online for January via Radio Campus Bruxelles. With songs of the day from Brazil, Peru, Argentina and London via South Africa. Our albums of the month are by experimental jazz trio Bog Bodies, Egyptian singer Maha and her 1979 arabic funk album, Israeli band Sababa 5 and their psychedelic exotica, Turkish singer Gaye Su Akyol and her psychedelic folkrock and Nigerian band Oriental Brothers International Band and their Igbo highlife music. Continuing with Electric Vocuhila and their Malagasy tsapiky sound, Mexican electro cumbia meets classical keys by Memo Pimiento, Algerian disco raï singles from the Maghreb K7 Club, Sarera & Blanc Manioc and their Mayotte island bass, Insula and their La Reunion maloya deep bass and finishing with RS Produçoes from Lisboa and their batida bass.

and in case you had missed, our #101 December show with a lot of great sounds. Songs of the day by Alicia Edelweiss and Ezra Collective on folky and afro funk vibes. 11 Albums of the month by Senegalese-Swedish group Wau Wau Collectif, desert psyche folk by Ak’Chamel, Kutiman with chill exotica soul & grooves, Guts with a powerful lineup of african & latin musicians, latin psychedelica vibes by Lola’s Dice, an anthology 2LP from Sao Tomé & Principe on Pedro Lima’s life and music and the religious electropop by Ghanaian singer Linda Ayupuka. Followed by female empowerment by Persian-Israeli singer Liraz, Al-Qasar and their urban arabic desert rock, French-Moroccan duo Alix Pilot & Ghizlane Melih and their arabic electrodub vibes and finishing with Iranian female producer Maral and her dark cut up electronics.

Colombian band Sonoras Mil brings psychedelic tropical pop, Kiko de Gallo brings organic electro compositions in different colours, while father-son duo Betamax & Clive Bell combine experimental jazz and electronics. Owini Sigoma Band goes into spacey effects on traditional and electro tones via Brownswood label, while The Tonga Boys & Dr Kanuska Group dive into heavy ritual temple sounds. Tunisian duo Frigya brings mezwed & bedoui beats via Shouka label, Lisboa producer DJ Lycox via Principe Discos and South Africa gqom producer Griffit Vigo via Brussels Maloca label.

Our albums of the month take us to Egypt (Juju Sounds) via Zimbabwe mbira sounds (Awesome Tapes From Africa), Balimaya Project mandé trad funk from UK (Jazz ReFreshed), the tamashek rock by the band TisDass from Niger and Brussels experimental duo Trance Plantations (WERF). Upping the tempo with global groove beats by Stereo Utopia (Melting Records), psychedelic vallenato cumbia by Meridian Brothers & Conjunto Media Luna (Bongo Joe), warm south american electronics by Biomigrant, thumb piano electronics by blind Sierra Leone singer Sorie Kondi with his electronic Kondi Band (Strut) and uptempo afrotronics by ONIPA band. Dancehall bass producer The Bug launches a bass molotov cocktail with ‘Fire’ (Ninja tune) and closing off with spanish asturian bass by Llevólu’l Sumiciu (Samain Music).
