Gan Gah (MR / Bxl)
Fed by traditional « Gnawa » and Berber rythms ever since he was born in the suburbs of Agadir, Morocco, young DJ and producer Gan Gah is now based in Brussels. This accomplished musician, who has been performing for many years as a beatmaker under various pseudonyms, knows how to shake a dancefloor with bewitching beats. Offering a cunning combination of club music and traditional North-African music/rythms/melodies, his first EP “Souktronics” is a declaration of love to his Moroccan roots and to modern electronic music which is about to make a lot of noise on worldwide dancefloors. Moroccan Bass, you said?

Sat 19 March > Rebel Up! Soundclash night @ Beursschouwburg Bxl

Rebel Up 19 maart

this saturday 19th we organise a special Rebel Up! Sounclash night in the Brussels Beursschouwburg.
a global underground night with live sets and dj sets of ethnic beats through digital folklore, dub and psychedelia.

X.A.Cute (DE) presents Shards
Founded in the early noughties in Berlin, X.A.Cute has been active in different shapes and styles, but the roots always remained the same: dub and hip hop, spiced up with whatever caught the attention of core members, DJs and producers Wuzi Khan and Freak Ass E. Over the years X.A.Cute has recorded and played with artists as (among others) Mike Ladd, Miss Red, Mark Stewart, Infinite Livez, The Shadowhuntaz, Guillermo E. Brown, and Ari Up, with releases on labels as Echo Beach, Moniker Eggplant, Anorakism and Meerkat Recordings. In Summer 2014 MPC-wizzard Guvibosh joined the line-up after moving from Jerusalem to Berlin, adding his russian percussion and a selection of bass heavy beats to the mix. After playing a number of successful club and festival gigs this combination resulted in the digital relase “Shards”. A mirror of the current live-show, it features a storm of samples and scales selected from records and musical cultures around the world, grounded by bass heavy riddims and a subtle dub treatment, including an (authorized) version of Mark Stewart & The Maffia’s “Liberty City” and one of the (nowadays) rare vocal performance from Wuzi Khan. No computers were used on stage or while recording, with about 50% of sequenced beats from the trusted Korg electribe, and 50% of the songs freely tapped in real time and space.
Wuzi Khan: Electribe, Dr. Sample, FX, vocals
Guvibosh: MPS, Kaoss FX
Freak Ass E: EMU Sampler, MIcrokorg, FX, cowbell

Guess What (FR/UK)
Spearheaded by the alter ego’s Luke Warmcop and Graham Mushnik, this duo specializes in obscure metaphysical music and global soundtracks with electronic organs, synthesizers, melodica and electronics that take you through Russia, the Middle East and the 70’s *Giallo* cinema of Italy. Their most recent LP “Al Khawarizmi” is an amazing homage to the 8th century Arabic astronomer Al Khawarizmi who invented algebra and studied the solar system. It’s filled with Middle Eastern, Persian, Indo-Pakistani and Northern African psychedelic grooves from the 60’s and 70’s, belly dance beats enhanced by modern drum sequencing, samples and synthesizers. Expect a heavy dose of eastern psychedelics that will make your mind and body swirl into a higher state.

Joxaren (SE)
David Giese aka Joxaren is a Swedish musician with a background in Punk/Dub/Hip Hop/ Electro. Deejaying since the mid-nineties, Joxaren has been focusing on hybrids and intersections of musical styles and fitting it into his peculiar bouncy Skweee sound. Relentlessly hoovering the remotest stitches of the www for the best Tallava wedding jams, trading the latest Manele compilations from the local Romanian beggar on the corner, searching through Egyptian pop charts and of course adding all the news from his fellow Scandinavian Skweee-makers, Joxaren finds ingredients for his motley blend of sounds.

Rebel Up! DJ’s (Bxl)
hosts of the night and no secret to the global underground nightlife in Brussels, organising many different concert & dance nights in venues such as Recyclart, Bonnefooi and Les Ateliers Claus. These dj’s are true selectors, remixers and digital diggers, always looking for that special global beat hidden away from the mainstream ‘world’ music. From the latest electronic beats to traditional folklore, there is a place for all of these in their colourful dj sets. Select global, play local!

Hello Brussels!

10990007_10153255344825782_3334741651309786676_o

This saturday a sweet night at Beursschouwburg together with kunstencenter De Vooruit from Ghent as part of the yearly Out Loud festival.
British afropunk-poppers Zun Zun Egui sadly had to cancel their show, but Rebel Up! helped arranging some fine replacements for them, 2 bands even, yay!

We´re proud to present French-British outfit Orchestre Du Mont-Plaisant and local Brussels & Ghent afro-heroes Mocambo to fill this night with their special global sounds.

Orchestre Du Mont-Plaisant specialises in all global styles with a heavy psychedelic sauce. They bring together world rhythms and moody cinematic moments playing blues and dance pieces, with notable influences from Congolese Soukous, African highlife, Ethiopian jazz, cumbia, séga and a whiff of Middle-East and Turkish Psychedelia to make your head & body spin.

Mocambo
will shake you up with their heavy Afro-Brazilian & urban Afrobeat rhythms. It´s the project by rapper Le Tagarel and composer Tartaruga and joined by our own Brussels artist Témé Tan and several other master musicians. Their strong sound takes you from Angola to Brasil in many colours and spheres. Get ready to rumble with this wild band!

Before, between & after global tunes from around the world by Rebel Up! SebCat

Sat 12 Oct Rebel Up! @ Beursschouwburg Bxl w/ Shangaan Electro (SA)

12 oct 2013

Great concert & global concert & party night coming up this saturday 12 October in the central Brussels Beursschouwburg! This night is organised by Beursschouwburg and the Ancienne Belgique as a cultural collaboration for exciting nights during this cultural year.

Shangaan Electro has already played Brussels 2 times before (at Ateliers Claus and Recyclart) but if you have missed these awesome shows or just want to see and dance again to their wild electro marimba sounds, this is your chance 🙂
This outfit hails from the townships around Johannesburg, South Africa, though originally these folks and their Shangaan/Tsonga music style come from the north-eastern Limpopo area, land of red earth and tribal culture. Started by leader Richard Mthetwa aka Nozinja (or Dog) who stopped his mobile phone business to pursue music with MIDI instruments, warped voice samples and hyperkinetic rhythms with traditional Tsongadisco, Shangaan Electro means full dancefloor action where the Tshe Tsha Boys and Nkata Mawewe will show you their fastest legbending and hipshaking moves. Think you can dance to this? Just try or die, check this out >

support by Belgian indiepop band Témé Tan with their heavy tropical dreamy sounds to kick off the night.

We’ll be playing an eclectic South African set, with unheard Shangaan sounds, Tsonga disco, Soweto funk and more. Perhaps we might already start at 21h to warm up with an eclectic indie/globaldelica set.

timetable:
21:00 doors Zilveren zaal/Silver Room + roof terrace
22:00 Témé Tan
23:00 Shangaan Electro
00:00 DJ set Rebel Up!
