KEL ASSOUFTamashek rock, BXL
Out of nostalgia and the loneliness of the desert, Brussels based band Kel Assouf builds music around the Touareg Tamashek culture and the fight against discrimination. Key figure Aboubacar ‘Anana’ Harouna, a fledged tamasheq from Niger, speaks with his guitar, and uses it as a means to claim his rights without bloodshed. With one foot in the desert and the other in the urban jungle, Anana writes about events from the Sahara to here, about life in exile and about freedom, peace and respect for all peoples in the world. After their first album ‘Tin Hinane’ (in 2010) and second album ‘Tikounen’ (2016), Kel Assouf evolved into a new sound on their new album ‘Black Tenere’, released earlier this month on Glitterbeat Records. Tunisian producer Sofyann Ben Youssef immersed the band in a surprisingly contemporary production and sound, which expresses a cry of impotence against violence, injustice and pollution in the world. The result? Desert rock with stirring drums, mesmerizing guitar riffs, psychedelic melodies and Tamasheg vocals. African rhythms played by rock musicians, bring Kel Assouf to the dance floor, somewhere between Brussels and Niamey.

Fabrice’s DJ alias illustrates the diversity of the musical worlds he shares: ‘Cheb’ is a homage to Algerian Raï singers, whereas ‘Gero’ refers to the Japanese noise cult band of the same name, and to his own surname. His DJ sets consist of a broad range of music; Arab, African, and (South East) Asian folk, grooves and beats.

✹ DUCKFOOD (roffa | Pantropical, Rebel Up)
Duckfood’s awe-inspiring music collection absorbs anything from Renaissance to Moroccan trance. His DJ selections are colourful and not preoccupied by categorization. Because of his love for the Maghreb and Arab music he is hellbent to make something extra special of this evening.

Performance DJing, video, 3D
In memory of Logobi :  an installation about the collective black amnesia in France. by Christelle Oriyi, dj, producer, freelance, sound designer and french critic.

Oriyi proposes a multidisciplinary project combined with DJing, video and 3D where she shows the hybrid and unprecedented nature of the urban Logobi music style at the crossroads between Belgian hard-tech and Ivory Coast’s offbeat coupé décaler. It’s the story of an immediate contemporary history that has been voluntarily forgotten. That of the Logobi dance, born in the early 2000s in the neighborhoods of Abidjan in Ivory Coast.

Concert
MC Black Odhiambo (KY)
Charismatic slammer and rapper, Blak Odhiambo lives in Kibera, the gigantic ghetto south Nairobi, capital of Kenya. Kibera is a lively neighbourhood, from where a good share of the artistic energy of the Kenyan capital emerges. He draws his inspiration from reggae, Kenyan music, rap, but also in unlikely encounters with the sandstone of his urban wanderings. He will present his new multimedia project: Panthera Leo.

22h > 23h30
Dj Raph & Nita (KY/ AT)
Producer, electronic musician and dj from Nairobi. On Sacred Groves, Dj Raph trains complex electronic music and Pan African ethnographic field recordings. His live set is a virtuoso juggling of beats and voices of the past. Sampling and looping on the fly, he creates hypnotic moments of insight into a timeless universe that blends modern electronic bass, African chants, and traditional rhythms. He avoids kitschy or clichéd clothing, but seeks out the essence of African dance music. Live visuals by Austrian VJ Nita.

Thu 23 Nov: Turkish Pyschedelic Groove night with Derya Yildirim & Grup Şimşek concert, afterparty with Rebel Up, Radio Martiko & Front Chaud

A very special night of Bonnefooi Invites, in collaboration with Rebel Up, with some very special guests
Derya Yildirim & Grup Şimşek (TR/DE/FR/IT/GB)

Young singer/multi-instrumentist Derya Yıldırım teams up with fantastic drummer Greta Eacott (G-Bop Orchestra / One-Take records) and 3 quarters of Catapulte Records’ Orchestre du Montplaisant (Antonin Voyant, Graham Mushnik, Andrea Piro). With members originating from Turkey, Germany, France, Italy and Great Britain, Grup Şimşek (pronounce « Shimshek ») encapsulates the Outernational generation.

Upon hearing Turkey’s Derya Yildirim, it only takes a few seconds until your soul willingly allows itself to be bowled over. This singer/multi-instrumentalist namely possesses a unique voice that exudes both melancholy and longing. Musically, she is accompanied by Grup Şimşek that excels with its hypnotic Anatolian psych-pop. Turkish folk, grooves and psychedelica. Aside from own compositions, Derya Yildirim also interprets gems by Turkish artists like (protest)singer Selda Bağcan, rock pioneer Barış Manço, Moğollar and the Turkish poet Nazım Hikmet. After their amazing performance at the 10 Years of Rebel Up party in Recyclart last march and more recently at the Feeerieen festival by Ancienne Belgique in August, be sure to get in on time for a good spot to shake & cry with us.

Listen to her 4 song EP ‘Nem Kaldi’ , co-released by Les Disques Bongo Joe & Catapulte Records in early 2017, to capture her deeply melancholic voice and the eloquently groovy sounds by Grup Şimşek.
