Coming Saturday we’ll be dj-ing some of our obscure, crooning, kitsch and swinging balkan tunes at the Le Grand Cirque du Balkan festival at Landbouwbelang in Maastricht (Zuid-Limburg!)

Expect to hear our paprika peppered sounds in the afternoon between bands and we’ll also play a more full global set at the end of the night.  The festival has no fixed entry price but just runs on voluntary donations from every visitor, so don’t forget to chip in!

What an amazing sunny Amsterdam roots weekender we had, hope you were there!

This wednesday we’ll continue even deeper into bizarre global territories on this very special Shangaan electro night at the good WORM in Rotterdam (not in Delfshaven anymore, but right in the centre at Heidegger venue, real close to the station!).

The South African Shangaan electro music is not your average african sound; it’s a happy electronic marimba folk style from the north-eastern Limpopo region with beats that can go up to 180 bpm. Not for faintfeeted. Producer Richard Nozinja will provide these infectuous marimba speed beats accompanied by the surreal dance moves of the Tshe Tsha Boys and the polyphonic voices of Tiyiselani and Nkata Mawewe. Sure is gonna be a good one, not be missed; only show in NL!

It’s about time for a steamy third Rebel Up! Soundclash night to give this Brussels winter some deserved sunshine! Expect a fully packed world trip in music where all borders are strictly taboo and in which the spirit of the global diaspora lives. A bit of acoustic ethnographics, a dose of innovative lo-fi & hi-fi electronics and a heavy dash of worldly kitsch. Or for the purists; Soukous, Afro funk, Soca, Roots, Balkan, Mestizo, Chaabi, Funana, Asiatic funk, Indian folkpop, Arabian techofolk, Global Bass & much more.

DJ Sebcat & Palm M of the nomadic Rebel Up! collective will serve up a tasty mishmash of sunny sound, while guest dj’s Brian Hainaut & Jean Mikili (Bal du Canal/BXL) will bring tropical tunes from the Brussels brousse that will make you shake, chouffé chouffé!

Rebel Up! is a not-for-profit collective that organises fundraiser nights for small charity organisations. Tonight’s funds will go to the Belgian/Rwandese humanitarian organisation Igitego Inyange ASBL who support education and healthcare projects in Rwandese villages.

During the night they will be selling specially prepared Rwandese snacks, yum yum! Come dance, taste & donate!

On this “divide and rule” game, indignation taken into action remains the best arm.  In order to connect and talk about real good common resolutions for the future, the OCCII and its Rebel Up! Soundclash is a perfect venue for that. We will bring you the atmosphere necessary to redeem your stomach and cruise the world’s perspective. Through what means of transportation ?

HOBO DREAMS OF CINEMATIC SALVATION (Los Angeles/US)
Paolo Davanzo and Lisa Marr have been touring the world for the past 20 years as musicians, filmmakers and ambassadors of cinematic goodwill. When they are not running the Echo Park Film Center in Los Angeles, they tour the world singing folks songs to accompany silent Super 8 films they have shot on their travels. From the Mongolian Steppe to the Streets of Mexico City, sit back and relax as these images and sounds are presented as a lullaby of memory and dreams. We’re lucky to have them as they’re just a few days in Europe by the invitation of the International Film Festival Rotterdam. Be on time, they’ll play around midnight!

I don’t know, save a boat that kills dolphins, attend Surinamese class, find a pet to your pets. Do something for your life. At least I know something you could do this Saturday. It’s meant to stimulate the heart and achieve a perfect body shape and pure feeling. It prepares you for the harshness of liver attacks for the next few weeks. By coming you’ll be forgetting all the horrors and fear to come. At least between 22.30 and 4.00.
